I seem to recall a mention of a single-speed country bike in the works, but can't for the life of me find the thread. It may have been a few months ago.

Anyhow, is that the case, or strictly fanciful? I'm generally out of touch with RBW news these days...

Grant mentioned that a new single speed frame of some kind was a possibility, but that if it happens, it won't be anytime soon.

First there was the QB
After a hiatus, there was one batch of SOs.
Another hiatus.
Then the Blue Lug instigated FJ Sr.
And another hiatus.

Another dedicated single speed coming out wouldn't surprise me.
I also wouldn't hold my breath.
RBW has a lot on their plate at the moment, and SS models don't seem to do all that well for them (IIRC the SO's were cleared out at a slight discount).

I was also wondering about this recently. I remember reading a mention of it somewhere along the way (Maybe in a GP blog post?), but I haven't been able to find it again. I'm definitely interested in learning more, as I have some single-speed aspirations myself. On my end, its looking like it might come down to waiting for the new RBW ss to come out, or going with a Black Mountain Cycles canti Monstercross when their next batch arrives in Novemberish.

I actually asked Grant about this when he did an AMA on Reddit. Here was his response:

Here's a link to the full discussion if anyone's interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/ecxo6l/grant_here/

Since it may be quite a while before this bike happens, I may just save my pennies and buy a Crust Lightning Bolt fixed instead.

Ah! I definitely saw the xbiking AMA. It's now making a lot of sense why I couldn't find it within the blog posts. Thanks for asking 'bout it!

Likewise - I must have seen his post in that same AMA. Thanks for pasting here!

Given all that’s going on, I wouldn’t be surprised if late 2020 becomes spring or summer 2021.

Right now I'm just hoping the Platypus - which I don't need and may buy anyway! 😬 - lands by Christmas. I wouldn't be holding out for a singlespeed Riv this year...

Yep with prototypes at RBW WHQ and early graphics in the blug/blhag, Platypi by xmas seems plausible. Barely hinted at 1 speeds, not so much.

What kind of bike is the Platypus? Has Grant said?

It's the new name for an updated Cheviot with v-brakes. I did a thread for it called Fancy Cheviot you can check out, we didn't know the new name when it started.

By single-speed, do you mean a bike with track ends on the back? And how big of a tire is country for you? If you can find one, the QB and SO both make fine country bikes in my opinion, and take at least 45cm tires. I used to ride my QB all around the trails and fire roads of Mt Diablo with 45s. To be honest, with a ss, I did a fair share of hiking with it too. Or you can use any Riv with either a White Eno, or a chain tensioner, as Will did with his Hunq.
