This is a classic & useful combination. I have the same bag from when Acorn started making them, at least 10+ years ago. It's been used & abused but keeps on tickin'. Super high quality.

How would the bag attach to the rack? Is a decaleur needed?

Look closely at the pictures and you can see a piece of leather attached to the bag between the small pockets . You can slide that over the tombstone on the rack and weave the bottom straps thru the rack and Shazam the bag is attached. Rather securely I might add.  I have three acorn bags and have yet to lose one. If you wanted the ultimate in staying power use a decaleur as well but I have yet to feel the need for one and all my bags are the large Acorn randos. Without the decaleur it makes it easy to carry your bag with if you're so inclined.

Re: attachment: On account of their sturdy flat-bottomed stiffener, these older-model* Acorns are in my opinion ideal candidates for RaClips (as sold by Waxwing or Grand Bois). Tombstone + clips provide astonishingly good security even without decaleur; this is especially valuable on smaller bikes where the whole decaleur/HT/rack interface can be a headache. Also, the bag is transferrable between racks with ~8mm tubing, assuming they are the same width. (I use mine across a Nitto M12, Nitto 27F, and VO mini-rando rack. A little care must be taken in initial fore-aft positioning of the clips on the bag, because the crossbar location varies from rack to rack, and constrains where one can clip the bag to the rack.)

*I have not tried the clips with the now-standard curved-bottom Acorn bags: they may work fine, but I would imagine placement is slightly more constrained.

Douge, Alex and Frank-thanks for your knowledgeable input.  Both rack and bag are super high quality.  The NITTO has a decaulur of sorts, called a "tombstone."  The bag slides perfectly on top of the rack and the sleeve on the back (facing the rider) fits onto the tombstone.  Leather panels on the bag have slots for optional fasteners.  It's a proven design that has always worked well for me.   Still available!

I’m a big fan of Acorn Bags. I own seven of their bags of various types, including this now discontinued X-PAC Compact Rando Bag attached to a Velo Orange Randonneur Front Rack, which is similar to the Nitto Mark’s Rack. No additional parts, like the RaClips, are needed. As Frank Brose said, they attach to the rack’s so-called tombstone upright and then Velcro straps through the platform. I highly recommend Acorn Bags.

Plus one.

We’ve got Acorns on all bikes and have had for years. They get better and better as the miles pile up.

With a bit a care, they will keep ticking for decades. And it’s good to support these independent, clever, talented makers.
