I suppose i would've bought a bananasax by now, but they are all sold out. So now im considering other things. I mostly need it to hold a normal sized u-lock, multi-tool and tire levers and an extra tube, but i'd appreciate something with capacity for a jacket or sandwich also. Bonus points if it works on the handlebars as well as the saddle. Top of the list right now is the small ultraromance hip/handlebar pack (which ive already owned and sold), or the VO/roadrunner bananasax-like saddlebag.

recommendations are great, and if you have something to sell, even better.

thanks

I have a rust colored road runner jammer bag in good used condition that I am not using. I have been using the jumbo jammer exclusively since I moved and my job changed. These are the best execution of bike bags and I have tried a lot of them.

Thanks Conway,
Ive considered the jammer, but I feel it is a bit more bag than I’m looking for. If for some reason, you end up really wantIng to unload it though, let me know.

I can’t offer mine for sale since they are frequently used but if you happen to come across any offers I’d highly recommend the OYB Saddlebag or 7-Way bag (as I think they were last called.). OYB = Out Your Backdoor by Jeff Potter - I don’t think he sells these any longer but I grabbed a couple several years ago and they are highly versatile military surplus canvas bags with thick leather bottoms that work great as both saddle or handle bar bags and also good for grab and go/shoulder bags if/when going into town or during extended lock-ups. Good size internal pocket for most items you describe and small outer pocket keeps tube/levers/multi tool/etc. last I recall he kept the info page up just for prosperity on his webpage but haven’t visited recently to confirm their latest status.

My favorite is the Little Joe, the smallest of the three that were early Rivendell bags. I have one for $50 shipped, if interested I can send a picture. Steve

For **workmanlike** value, capacity, materials, and workmanship, and 80 years of history, consider the Carradice Junior or the Carradice Cadet. Current Carradice cotton bags aren't as well made as those from 20-30 years ago (my ~1997 Nelson LF was heavy waxed canvas with duck lining, and it would carry water like a bucket; and the leather straps and chrome hardware were top quality), but IME Carradice have improved quality over the nadir of circa 2010, and my recent bags are satisfactory. All this to be considered in reference to the prices you pay when ordering direct from Carradice or from English suppliers like SKS. Order in the US and they become less competitive with smaller brands.

I really enjoy my Carradice Junior, I think the size is just right for a lock, sweatshirt and tube/tools. I give it big points for not being made out of dinosaurs, and I've found that ordering directly from Carradice the price is actually pretty reasonable. They subtract the VAT for orders to the U.S. and I think I got mine with shipping included for $68, which is about half of what many state-side bags are going for nowadays....

I’ve been far down the saddle bag rabbit hole and have settled on the Acorn Medium Saddle Bag as the favorite for my needs. It has plenty of space with an expandable collar and drawstring, D rings for lashing a wet rain jacket or other items, exterior zipper pockets, and an internal dowel for stability. Also, there is no thigh rub due to the shape. Highly recommended. https://www.acornbags.com/products/medium-saddlebag?variant=1113866272

I've been using the Swift Bandito for ~5 years now.  Very happy with it.  Holds my repair kit and Kryptonie Fahgettaboutit with some room to spare.
The thing I like about the Swift Bandito vs the similar size Roadrunner bag is that on the bandito, the buckles for the straps go inside the bag, making it a bit harder for someone to quickly walk off with it..
It has a rigid sheet of plastic to keep it in a cylinder, which is sandwiched in between the outer shell and the inner, similar to a backpack frame, and has a small bit of unnoticeable hook and loop tape to keep it closed.  It's good for stashing things in.  I keep loose hex keys, some nitrile gloves and zipties in there.

I have one on my Open. It's well thought out - fastens with Voile straps, comes with an HDPE liner inside to prevent it sagging onto the tyre if being used without a rack underneath, has an additional piece of dowel at the front to prevent it sagging forwards onto the back of your legs when it's not stuffed full. Available as either waxed canvas or Cordura or X-Pac fabric.

I'm unsure about the dimensions of a "normal sized u-lock," but if the Bananasax (is that the right number of a's? it's giving me googly-eyes) works, how about the cloned Frost River or Duluth versions? If Duluth is still making them?

Just checked Duluth's website, didn't see any bicycle bags, maybe that ceded that business to Frost River? Maybe available used here on the list or elsewhere?

Here's the Frost River Echo Trail, available in colors even:

Any maybe one or two of mine in action?

I have a small Swift Zeitgeist in burgundy XPac for sale for $130 shipped CONUS.  Pic attached.
Condition is: "almost brand new".  But its the older model before they updated that bag this year.
I assume the bag was born in 2019.

I purchased from Swift as demo/shelf model.  They had it on a bike for a photo shoot.
I never used the bag. It had masking tape on it and I cleaned off the small amount of residue left behind (lightly; go over it again with what you're comfortable with).
Selling because I'm going with bigger bags.
This is big enough for a U-lock and a jacket etc.
It can also go on the handlebars; spacers necessary if you want to wrap your fingers around the bar where it is mounted.

Let me know if you are / anyone is interested.

This bag looks great, how much bigger is it than a banana bag/sack? I have the Kevin, now renamed at Riv, I think the smallest bag they offer and while it fits my essentials I would like to be able to carry a camera and also a light jacket when needed. How bit is this bag in reality?

Joel, thats very close to the Riv Little Joe I mentioned. Its the smallest size I use and would hold all that you mentioned easily. Nice to hear you are back on the bike. Steve

I don't have a Banana bag so I can't compare size. For reference here are a couple pics of the Junior with a hooded sweatshirt and a camera, with a bit of room to spare.

I have a medium Acorn saddlebag in olive that I'd sell for $50 plus actual shipping.

I would recommend my local bag maker.
https://ellumbagworks.com
Small shop, their Ursa Minor is pretty compact and comes in a variety of colors; I dig the black or multi-Cam.
They make a smaller bag as well that's pretty basic, but might suit your needs.
I have no affiliation with them, I just have several of their products and I am pretty sure they could use the work right now. 🤨
