It's weird but the description is written like he knows exactly what he has. If he's the original owner and knocking the selling price down from what he paid all those years ago it could make sense. Especially if his area isn't a good market for Rivbikes.

I love those Royal Gran Compe brakes...nice NOS Ritchey cranks...meh on the  bars. 

Ran out of money? Not impossible considering the last 2 years. Or having a tough time chasing down the rest of the build

It's gorgeous. The very first Riv I ever saw live in person was in San Francisco and looked just liked that, a yellow/gold/mustard Road or LongLow. It's a lot of money but somebody needs to build that frame up and ride it.

It's spendy all right...but getting a new custom is 5K for the base price and in Grant's Blug prior to his latest he said that there will be a year-long moratorium on customs. You can get yourself put on the list if you fill out the form , but it doesn't sound like a deposit is required until they contact you. Could be that the price could go up , but that's just me guessing

Eric, I can't deny you are right on both counts...a custom is for "you" and while it's a long process (I know this having ordered 2 of them) , it is fun , and within Rivendell's design criteria, you do get to collaborate on something you want.

@Joe I agree it's such a beautiful color. I've seen one the same or similar color in the wild and loved it. The color seems so appropriate. 

I would have balked about a NOS Rivendell, too. That is, until I bought a pristine, never-built Wilbury several months ago (about which I have written here in the forum). NOS Rivs are rare beasts indeed, but they are out there for the plucking.

Joe pointed to a 51cm Hunqapillar frameset, telling us to snap it up.  

The auction ended just now and it sold for $3383.33  
Us old timers remember that MSRP on first run Hunqapillars was $1500.  That's some pretty good value-retention for a used one, even in a rare color

I guess the real interesting thing is comprehending how a frame becomes a unicorn.  Nobody is going to make a Rambouillet again either.  We don't see the Rambouillet frame and fork selling for over $3000.  What bikes should we be buying now that we can ride the crap out of and double our money after 10 years?  :)

It's a weird* frame, too. The top and bottom head lugs don't match, which is a story I used to know but can't remember now. But if you want that frame in those colors this is one of the very few. Someone will build it and and have a great time. 

*Weird can be good.

I've lusted after a Hunq that size for some time now, but unfortunately the timing for my pocketbook is extremely poor. Medical bills + cargo bike build. I also think the price is a tad high, or at least I did until I saw what the smaller frameset just sold for. The build is nice but it's not like it's dripping with high end MUSA bits. It sure is pretty tho...  like, I want to ask it to dinner pretty.

The 51cm Appaloosa in Boston is mine. The bike was purchased and built with the intent of being a daily hauler of live cargo (our little one) hence the 1x build (if that is what is meant by "a specific build"). 

Joe hit it on the nose–one person in this equation was more invested in this project than the other. In addition, as has been the case for many others, the pandemic changed our commuting needs. As such, we've decided to sell this bike as well as a few others since we have a number of kid-related needs. A friend who has a ton of experience selling bikes offered to help.

Hi Taylor — It's a very nice bike, indeed and I understand your rationale for selling. 

What I mean is that this bike is fully thought out and spec'd out rather than what we understand to be a "stock" Rivendell build. Quills with WI and SON hubs, not Velocity-built wheels with Deore hubs; gold moto lites with Paul levers rather than Shimano Vs and levers; Silver crank set up 1x with SRAM Eagle rather than a Silver double, Deore RD and 9sp cassette. Deluxe and US-made stuff everywhere. 

It surprised me that it was up for sale after so much thought, work, planning and parts acquisition. Plenty here that is hard to find!

This one is mine.  I figured I'd go ahead and put it in the thread.  I hope that's not a foul!  I have it on Craigslist as $3,000, but $2,800 for in the family.  I'm happy to drop at a local shop to have them pack it if you're out of town.  But if you're in the region around Lancaster, PA (Baltimore/DC, Philly, Pittsburgh, up into NY state, etc.) drop me a line.  The previous owner was kind enough to meet me halfway between here and Philly when I bought it, so I'd like to extend the same courtesy.  It's been a great bike for my son, but he grew somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 inches in the last year, mostly in the past few months.  He's now taller than me (gulp...) so time to size up!

That's a pretty Maruishi at a good price. Note the familiar "wings" on the fork crown. Many of these nice Japanese bikes were never marketed in the US.

I got the NH Ram! The handlebars were just a test platform for another project, the Nitto drops are on it know. The write-up was to separate the wheat from the chaff. Thank you Matt for posting the listing! I've secretly wanted one of these for a long, long time. It's got a sheep on it! What more could I ask for. 

Seller was really finastkind. Lots of interesting beautiful steel bicycles.

Still working out the details on the 68 Rambouillet, but here's it before I put a S84 post, B68 (raised the stem a bit, but my sit bones are wide enough to get down with the width), and a new 11-28 cassette on this morning. https://photos.app.goo.gl/PgRmHczNNTkrGCra7
