Suspension Seatpost - Preference, in a Perfect World?

Hi all. New to the group, and new to the 26.8 o.d. seat-post size. Also newly realizing that the seat post diameters of most rivs aren’t compatible with [maybe] any suspension seat post manufacturer. I use a Cane Creek EE Silk + on my other bike and love the hell out of it. I’m building a Susie frame that I bought off of a kind person in Blacksburg, but have become accustomed to a little vibrational relief on the lower back.

For those of you who would like to or have ever considered wanting a suspension seat post with your Riv...whether road, urban, or off-road, which of the suspension seat posts on the market would you most like to see in 26.8, and why?

Not sure who I think I am, but part of me wants to reach out to Cane Creek to see if they’ll do a limited run of the Ee Silk + in the slightly modified diameter. It can’t be that difficult, but I suppose the question would be, do they have to get it safety tested, which would be prohibitively expensive. 

I also understand that Rivs are likely more comfortable than other bike brands, with some built-in compliance, and that I can run lower pressure in wider tires, I have a degenerated lower disc in my back where a suspension seat post would benefit greatly.

Some Rivs have a 29.8 seat post - the large Clem for instance.

If you want a Cane Creek Thudbuster or eeWings suspension post may have to contact Cane Creek to see if they can turn one down to 26.8 for you. I have a Thudbuster Uni-Pivot on my Rivendell Mountain. This is several years before the original inventor/developer sold/licensed this out to Cane Creek. My frame uses a 27.2 post. You may have to go with some other suspension means to get some comfort on the Susie W. Longbolts/Wolbis Slugstone. Some rail attachment suspension item looks to be in order.

There are other rail attachment suspension items, but I cannot think of them at the moment and nothing else readily popping up that seems like it would be a good choice. It is either that or a saddle with suspension on it.

Before doing anything, I'd wait until you actually have the frame, and check that the seat tube is actually 26.8. With the Appaloosa frame I bought in 2020, I found that the 26.8 Kalloy seatpost provided with the frame and a Suntour XC Pro 26.8 seatpost that I already had were both a loose fit in the seat tube, and as I already had a 27.0 Nitto post, I spent a few minutes with an adjustable reamer and reamed the seat tube on the Appaloosa to be an exact fit on the 27.0 post.

Have you found a solution for this?
Like you, I have a chronic lower back pain and the Cane Creek Thudbuster ST Seatpost installed in my Hunqapillar really helped.
For reference, I previously tried the Suntour SP12 NCX Suspension Seatpost but found it to bouncy even with several adjustment.
The Cane Creek gave me the right balance and felt normal with the benefit of suspension when needed.
Now I would like to use my GBW but it requires a 26.8 seat post.
I am tempted to do Laing's solution of reaming the seat post but I would prefer to find other solutions first.

Sorry to hear about the persistent back pain. I've not made any progress with a saddle suspension system that addresses my issues. Currently using a Brooks B67 (double-sprung). The combination of suspended leather and metal springs works well for the large impacts, but not great for the minor road chatter and medium thuds. So, still missing the sensitivity of my Cane Creek. I reached out to them to see if they'd create a small run of ee silk+'s with a different sized post. A quick negative on that one :)  . Currently moving, but once the dust settles I plan to try a product from this company (suggested for investigation by another forum member) https://airseatliyida.com/en/home/ in concert with a WTB Koda wide-width. 

I've taken notice that some Rivs are now offering 27.2 seat post diameter. If the AirSeat contraption is not a great long-term solution, I am thinking that I might pull the trigger on an upcoming Atlantis or [hopefully] Appaloosa frame with a larger seat tube inner-diameter and sell my 2021 53cm orange Susie Longbolts, hopefully swapping out most of the parts for minimal financial ruin.
