Wow Kim!

Great initiative and thanks for the inspiration to do the same. Will post if I ever get around to it.

Recently, I needed a bicycle project to do, since I am finished tinkering with my Clem. My inspiration came from a short video on Vimeo under Rivendell Bicycle Works called "Pedal extenders" from two years ago.

I noticed in the video that there was small blocks of wood, one light, maple ? and the other dark, walnut ? I do not know for certain. I thought since I live the PNW I will try aluminum.

I purchased the correct length and amount of screws (8) and an solid square aluminum bar. I did my measuring with a pair of calipers, marked my holes to be drilled and the cut-off points.

Afterwards, upon assembly, I encountered two of the metal bars with holes aligned well, while the others did not. Therefore, they needed to be drilled out more.

All in time, I managed to get them all assembled and back together. I am happy with outcome. I just have to do a road test.

I forgot to mention that I cleaned out and  re-greased the ball barrings in both pedals before I started my project.

@Nick,

You are more than welcome.
If and when you decide to get around to it let me know. I would be more than happy to provide you with the measurements and the specific size screws you need.

Kim Hetzel.

I've always liked the look of the Lambdas, but they've always looked too small for my #13s, and it's an expensive thing to get wrong. Nice work!

I think they’re wonderful, with my size 13 feet. I would get the riv pedal extenders, since they make an already comfortable pedal even more comfortable.

Kim,
The measurements and bolts would be super useful.

I have the same setup, down to the color.

Much obliged to you!

I'd like the measurements also ! Specifically, maybe a photo would do well with a tape measure of the front to back total length, and the total width, with the tape masure up against the arms t

That video was the inspiration for my own pedal project. I'll try to post a picture if I'm able. I used the MKS Sylvan Stream Next. Unscrewed the aluminum end plates and added teak wood block with studs (intended for golf shoes) added for gription.

Here for now is a drawing with measurements, and a material list.

*The drill sites are 2.13" c to c
*The drill sites from end to center is .037".
*I used a drill press

I will take some pictures at a later time.

@Garth,

You are more than welcome. I am very happy you enjoyed my hand drawing of the pedal. It was fun.

Is there a need at this time to take pictures?

Kim Hetzel who has yet to do a road test of these pedals.

I'm good with drawing Kim, thanks. I mostly wanted to know the width from the crank arm and the total length. I think I could get by with just the Riv side extenders on a Gamma/Grip King pedal. The VP Vice I'm using have width but the platform length it rather short for a size 14 shoe.

@Dan,

I did use 1/2" square aluminum in my build for my pedals. If you look under the materials list, it does describe as it being so from a 3 foot length bar.

Upon looking at your web link, yes, it does appear to a lot cheaper. However, what would be the shipping cost as opposed to picking it up in person?

I've been riding these modified pedals since Riv sold the extension kits. Beware of pedal strike. I went to 170mm cranks from 175 on the Cheviot and it's been good to go. The Clem got the rustic black set and at 178mm no issue but not tons of miles.

Thank you for sharing your pictures of your modified pedals.

What wood did you use?

Thanks for the heads up for pedal strikes. I will keep that in mind. I have a SILVER 173mm CRANKSET with a 27.5 wheelset.

The black pair got oak, cut from a local tree. The silver was whichever Riv sold, maybe walnut.

I thank you very much for letting me know that specific woods you used in the modifications of both your pedals.

To one and all,

I want to share with everyone a follow up on my DIY MKS Lambda pedal extensions project.

After riding with these extensions, I have noticed my modifications have significantly added a greater and more supportive platform for my shoes in pedaling than before.  I am very happy and pleased that I successfully made these.

Kim Hetzel with no pedal strikes yet.
