Hi folks. I can't seem to get these v-brakes more vertical, not so splayed out. They work fine.

Known issue: Canti posts are very narrow on the fork (72mm!) and the Cliffhanger rims are very wide, 30mm. They don't seem to play nice. Any thoughts?

I'd rather not go with cantis and short pull levers. I love the Motolites.

My custom uses a road-ish width fork and Velocity Atlas rims, the Motolite arms splay out a bit. Yours is a little more pronounced cuz your rims are so wide but if they're working I say enjoy the ride!

You've got all the possible make-it-narrow options there (thinline, washers in the right place).  I don't think it gets better with narrow spacing.  Looks almost exactly like my Marin-lites on narrow Schwinn canti posts except those are cantilevers.

Seems like you already called out the issue.

It’s just those wide-ass Cliffhangers!

Running exceptionally wide rims on a bike with narrow cantilever posts along with brakes that don't offer much width-adjustability is kind of designed to end up like this.  Is this a new build where you kind of guessed because the parts are all "really good" only to find they don't really fit together optimally?

Regardless of how you got here, one suggestion would be to measure the actual thinness of your Thinline brake pads.  What is the distance from the surface of the brake pad to the surface of the Motolite brake that the brake pad spacer registers against.  What is that distance?  On road-type holders with inserts that distance is about 15mm.  If your Thinline brake pads are substantially thicker than 15mm in that dimension, then swapping out to road holder style brake pads might get you a little bit of angle correction.

I understand if you think the outward angles of the Motolites just look “off” somewhat. But, if your issue is just that of the brake componentry jutting out to the sides of your fork, I’m pretty sure most other cantilever brakes (especially Pauls) would stick out as much, if not more than your Motolites do currently.

Not really adding to the conversation in a constructive way, but I have the opposite issue where the GBW fork is wide, but the Rigida/Ryde Andra rims are not as wide as Cliffhangers.
Motolites with the fat washers on the inside might correct this issue!
For reference, the tires are 700x50 gravelkings.

Thanks for the feedback folks. They work well, so I should just ride it and enjoy. I thought maybe I was missing something in my setup. I had seen another Toyo Atlantis with Motolites that looked to be a bit more properly aligned, but it's rims are 4mm narrower than mine, so maybe that's where the difference is made up. The thinline pad surface  to brake arm distance is just a hair under 15mm, so I can't improve things there. I never measured the brake boss width on the fork since the rear was 82mm and I naively assumed that they would be the same. I added a front rack today and it sits wider than the brake arms, so it's all good.
