The first ride was interesting, I had to stop a few times to make tweaks.
So this will be the last time I use this mechanic. First he wasn’t sure
how to wrap the bars, ok, I can do that, and probably better as I may move
the levers a bit. The brake pads were rubbing and I had him loosen the fit
a bit, ok, that can happen. About 1/2 mile from home I stopped to check
something and the rear break sounded like an elephant, that has worked
itself out pretty much but the front still is loud. The bars, they were
not tightened enough and that almost caused a problem with that first stop.
The pics won’t reflect where the bars are set now but higher than in the
outside pic of the bike alone, I was wondering why my hands were hurting.

The ride is very different than the Bleriot, a bit more sure footed, not
twitchy at all. Feels slower but he bike is different and the tires are
48’s vs. 42’s. The bike fit is very good, longer stem than the Bleriot,
longer TT, I am actually surprised that it did not feel much longer. I
could hold the bars at the ends which is too upright for me on the Bleriot.

It felt like I was working harder, my legs told me that but I think part of
that was the many tweaks I had to stop and do.

I won’t ride for one or more days as I will be getting a Coolief treatment
on my left knee tomorrow morning, like Radio Frequency Ablation but a bit
cooler process. I do not want another TKR.

So tonight I may wrap the bars now that I know the squeaky brakes will work
themselves out and I will not be changing them, and the stem length seems
good, and put a rear rack on.

More to come I am sure.

I don't doubt it feels quite a bit slower! But I bet it will ride so much
better with a load than the Bleriot. I'm amazed just how much slower my
Clem is vs. my Hillborne. It's a huge difference, well beyond tires, and
honestly it's kind of surprising. I imagine the Atlantis is closer to the
Clem than the Hillborne. Certainly made to achieve different goals though.
That build is gorgeous looking and looks like a great all-rounder as long
as you're not in too much of a hurry.
Joe Bernard <joer...@gmail.com>: Sep 03 03:02PM -0700

That's a good looking bike, Joel! I love the way the Atlantis color pops in
the sun.

Great looking bike & I know you'll enjoy it. I too have an Atlantis & it's
my 95% of riding. BTW, what is that saddlebag? I'm looking for something
that's small & tidy like that, just for spare, tools, lock, just the small
stuff. Do you know how many liters it is?

Thanks Jason. I’m not in a hurry but I do like to go for rides where it is
not casual, if you know what I mean. I just did a ton of measurements. I
was spoiled as my old bike guy had all my numbers written down and my
tweaking was always minimal. I gave this guy, a nice guy, mu seat height,
how high I like the bars over the saddle, He even measured where the brake
lever were placed on the albatross on the Bleriot. All were off. Now it
really is my fault, I should have checked before I rode, so now I have the
saddle and bar height correct and only minor tweaking will be needed.

I was really surprised by how much the bar sloped vs the Bleriot, but in a
few rides I should have it nailed down.

The steering is slower, or less sensitive, what I wanted, so that pleases
me.

I believe in a few more rides I will have it dialed in.

Thanks Joe. Three color is much nicer in person than on the Riv site (just
my opinion).

Doug, thanks. The bag is what was called the Kevin bag years ago. I sold
a new one some years back on the forum. I think the Sackville small bag is
basically the same. I don’t know how many liters but it is smaller than
the Acorn small bag.

The measurements are a bit different but close. Mine is 7W x 4.5 D X 4 1/4
H
That is without stuffing, you can push it a bit.

As a quick follow up - I've received several screen shots which have me
covered. Thanks!

Have send a request/bug report/trouble ticket thingy and will hopefully
have some understanding of the issue.

Probably some nested setting lodged under an innocuous arrow or
three-dot-link.

Thank you again.

As a follow up to my follow up:

- I've confirmed that "Reply to author" was authorized in the group
settings.

But in doing so, did notice that "Reply to author" is open only to group
members (set that way on purpose).

I'm wondering if those of you who have experienced issues with this may
have been logged out of the group - in other words, viewing it from another
email/google ID which is not recognized as the member ID.

Since a few of you have had trouble only in mobile, I'm curious if that's a
vector.

Can you confirm that you are actually logged into the group when this is
not functioning?

Again - thanks.

Yep, I'm logged in Jim. I can switch between the classic and new group
formats at will. I use Firefox desktop only w/Linux Mint. I just tried it
with Chrome also, no go there too. Classic view I can reply to author, new
view I cannot, as I showed in the photo I sent you. In fact, I could not
have even got to that point unless I was logged in. I've reported it google
so many times I lost count, so I do wonder if such reports are even read.
I do find it a bit comical though, having permission to not have permission
!

To All:

Taking a quick break from my work-at-home activities to express a bit of puzzlement. I’ve been on this list for years, and for years I’ve seen messages about people who try to respond to the person who posted a message but couldn’t for some reason. I *think* this is all based on issues in the online version of Google Groups, right?

You all know that you can get all of this stuff sent to you in you email inbox, yes? You get an email that is the same as the post on Google Groups, which comes with the email of the sender/poster in it. Then you use your email program to compose a message back. Quick and easy. I’ve done it this way since … forever.

Am I missing something? Are these people philosophically averse to using email? You don’t *have* email? You only want to interact with the RBW Group online?

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. It’s just that the same problem comes up over and over and over again, and the solution is so easy.

OK, back to work for me.

I just don't want my inbox blown up with every response to every thread,
even if it's filtered to a separate RBW Bunch folder or something like
that. I enjoy the interface of clicking through threads as I please in
addition to reading threads in a descending order and having the thread
confined to one space- things come across clearer to me that way, rather
than sorta getting my emails mixed up / out of order. In fact one of the
first things I did when I joined the group was turn off email notifications
entirely, other than PMs.

It's not a huge deal, and if Google Groups stuff doesn't get sorted then
maybe I will move to emails, I just also read emails all damn day at work
and appreciate the respite. Not the end of the world, I just prefer the web
interface. That said, maybe I just don't use email filters correctly.

Joe Bernard <joer...@gmail.com>: Sep 03 03:06PM -0700

What Erik said, I tried the email version for a short while years ago and
hated it. What's going to happen is if the web version becomes impossible
to work with, I'll just not be on Google Groups anymore.

I have my personal emails in a window in a monitor separate from where most of my “work” happens. I glance over once in a while to see if anything looks interesting.

As I recall, you can opt to receive one email a day or one per week(?) Downside there is you’ll miss that sweet deal that somebody offered.

I too like Erik in Philly have all email notifications off except personal
messages. What I view I view here online, I have no interest in bunches of
emails.

For clarity, when I reply here on this topic , it is available for all
members to see here on this publicly viewed website and for member that
accepts group messages to their personal inbox. When I wish to reply to a
single member , for whatever the reason, it is with the intent of a
one-on-one personal conversation, not a public/group conversation. No other
member is involved.

Yes, I interact with this group the way Garth does..been that way from the
beginning at bikelist . org and internet-bob since 2000. Now I can't even
post on my Android, I have to use a tablet and that one won't send PMs. If
they want me outta here completely, we're almost there.

This IS a topic that comes up frequently and it has me looking at my own use case. I am an email exclusive user and here are some thoughts on why that is.

I came to this group as an extension of another group that used to function as a listserv. I have just kept up with that email to post format.

I use a mail client, a program that collects and sorts my email from multiple email addresses. To read and send email I launch the program and do what I need to do. That is to say I do not get email by directing a web browser to www.yahoo or www.gmail or whatever. I imagine that if I did read email on a web browser there are only a few more steps to access google groups (with a gmail address), as I do not, it seems like very many steps.

I have more than one email address. I bet I have more than a score of email addresses. Not only does my mail client sort mail in many ways, I also have several accounts that I can interact with or ignore as I see fit. I can imagine a few reasons that others may not want multiple addresses (even work and personal) and there is some learning and time involved in setting up a mail client.

IMHO the culture of this list is one of active discussion topics. A topic typically lasts a few days to a few weeks. Others have expressed an interest in search and browse functions when framing google groups as a forum. I check the group emails every few days and read or share my opinion. If I miss a topic I don’t mind so much because it is likely the group has moved on so to speak. I can certainly imagine someone new to the group being excited about old and new topics equally. A forum style interface allows for access to that that wider array of posts.

I do sometimes wonder if I shouldn't have went with the Homer for the
lighter tubing, but the Sam is by no means sluggish or heavy feeling for
having the stouter tubes of the two. I have mine built up pretty
lightweight (for what it is), it's around 27 lbs with accessories but no
bags. I came off a very light tubing bike, the Soma Grand Rando, and the
Hillborne doesn't feel much slower to be honest, if at all! It's
definitely smoother, which is surprising given the stronger tubing. I think
the geo just puts me in the perfect place between the wheels.

I do long distance road rides on the Hillborne and while it might do me
well to have a bit of a lighter tubed bike in those cases, it's really nice
to be able to also strap a bunch of weight to the same bike (or ride rough
roads and trails) without worry! I do these rides with people on full road
bikes sometimes and I don't feel the bike holds me back more than maybe
3%.
EricP <eperic...@gmail.com>: Sep 03 02:03PM -0700

After a couple of days hemming and hawing, decided to go back to the
saddlebag rack I initially tried. Nothing wrong with the Pletscher, just
wanted something different. So, this is pretty close to final. Unless I
change up saddles again. Only differences from earlier are a Cygolite
headlight on a Gino Mount, , Cygolite tail light, Brooks Cambium C17, mini
reflective triangle, and Sackville hub shiner. Only bummer is the
reflective triangle covers up the Rivendell flying man patch on the
external pouch.

Still might add a bell. And down the line may swap out the trigger shifter
to something else. Oh, and different tires. But that's for next year. No
rush now. Want to just ride the bike. And enjoy.

Also: I should say that while I do not post on the group often, I am a
