Hey all! I know that it’s been a bit wet & cold, but I’d love to see if anyone would want to have a little ride in the coming week(s). Perhaps even a New Year’s day ride to celebrate in the new year in style?

I’m in the City proper and was thinking about some mixed terrain around town while keeping it mostly road-ish so that no one’s limited by the ride route. Pastries + hot drinks + more snacks?

I’d love to hear from anyone interested or even connect with other like-minded people for more than just a one-off ride. 💕

I'm down in the Peninsula. Traditionally the club ride is to climb Mt. Hamilton on New Year's Day, but with 2 kids I'm unlikely to make it. If you do come down to the Peninsula we can try to do something.

It’d be a lot of fun to ride with members of this forum in each respective area of the Bay (Oakland, Peninsula, etc.).

Perhaps a tentative end of the year/beginning of the year ride for starters? I say this selfishly because I’ll be out of the City until later this month! As such, I propose a ride on either the 31st of December or the 1st of January that’s to take place in San Francisco and is a couple/few hours of sightseeing, snacks, & occasional bike ogling. I’m thinking a meet up time of 10:30 to allow ample time for those crossing the Bay or coming from the Peninsula (should y’all want to join) or just enough time to enjoy either your Sunday off (the 31st) or to recover from the 31st (if the 1st is when we ride).

I’ll think on it some more and invite suggestions, etc. I look forward to talking more about it here. ❤️

I’ll be posting a route, etc., in the next couple of days that’ll include a few chill hills and at least one coffee shop plus spots along the way for food. I’ve never planned a ride of this sort before so bear with me 😊

I’m also leaning towards a NYE ride that’ll have us meeting up at 10:30 at a coffee shop and rolling out at 11 for a couple hours or so. Nothing too intense or crazy here.

Hey all!

10am meet on 12/31 at Coffee Movement (1737 Balboa) followed by a 10:30am departure with potential stops at Golden Boy, Red’s Java, and Farley’s (that’s the lil’ Potrero detour built into the ride) followed by a leisurely cruise to the top of Twin Peaks. Here’s the route. 

The ride can of course continue after the end of the above suggested course. Either way, the main point of this is to have a chill, friendly meandering around the City before kicking off 2023.

I'm out of town pretty much the whole first half of January but would love to join a ride soon.  I hope you all have a great time on the 1st!  Also, related to this, do any Peninsula folks have a shop they receommend?  Palo Alto Cyclery is the only place I've found that carries anything I'm looking for, but I never enjoy being in there.  I need to get my Sam tuned up soon and would prefer to not have to take it up to SF.

I highly recommend you get yourself a copy of Roads to Ride (https://amzn.to/3YjHJAl), and  Roads to Ride South (https://amzn.to/3YkOlyM). They're both written by this gentleman called Grant Petersen. You might have heard of him.

The books were written in the 1980s/1990s, but they're still mostly good and highly recommended. It's OK to buy them used. Grant told me he never saw any royalties from the books before the publishing company went under.

Ok all, the weekend is approaching, so I'm going to propose the following... 

Let's start in the Mission, ride out the Wiggle and do a loop through GGP, then down OceanBeach/Great Highway to Lake Merced, then back up and through the Park and back to the Mission. It's an easy ride - I have to work at 10:30, so would ask that we meet at Dandelion Chocolate, at 16th and Alabama, depart at 8:00. When we get back, the hot chocolate will be on me. sd

I'm curious if anyone has a bike shop on the Peninsula they trust for repairs/tunes ups.  Also, what's up to whoever I saw on a Riv going the opposite direction (north) on Old County Saturday.

(1) Ask for Jerry at the Bicycle Outfitter. He's worked on various problems I couldn't fix myself for years.

(2) The mechanic/wheelbuilder from Cupertino Bike Shop is now running his own mobile bike repair: Juan Oliva

(408) 910-8040 (call or text).

(3) Dave Prion previously ran the service department at the Bicycle Outfitter. But last time I chatted with him he's managing Apple's in-house fleet and I can't outbid Apple.

Both/either of these people are great.
