Has anyone mounted the Silver2 shifters on a downtube yet? Curious to see how that looks and works.

I'll be surprised if anyone bothers when Silver1 is so good for it. I just mounted a 2 on a bar-end and it's short and curved..I think the reach and shape would be awkward as a downtuber.

Yeah I have both, and I think the original Silvers are the best choice for the downtube. I'm sure the 2's would work fine, but they seem intended as thumb or bar and shifters.

Thought that might be the case. Thanks for confirming.

Will at Riv recently said the original Silvers would be the better choice for dt shifters.

The real question is how they look and work on the stem. So few people recognize the truth that stem shifters are freaking BOSS that I just have to assume it’s up to me to try it first.

Hmm, the stem mount, I forgot that thing was a thing. This would solve a problem I have with my right hand..I've switched rear shifters to the left side, and on my Clem H with a front shifter it's mounted so I kinda manhandle it with the whole hand to move the shifter (not often in front). With this I could have both shifters on the left: one on the bar and one on stem.

Me-thinks Silver1 works better on the stem, though. You get that nice 'top of the fingers' touch on it.

Yep Joe, you’re right. I recently built up a Clem for my wife with mustache bars and Silver1 shifters mounted to an IRD stem adapter. Even though I haven’t handled the Silver2’s in person, I’m pretty positive that the Silver1’s work better than the Silver2’s on a stem mount. Bill is also right— stem shifters ARE boss. Besides the Clem, I’ve built up three other bikes recently (within the last couple years) with Suntour Power Ratchet stem-mounted shifters (very similar ratcheting action to Silver shifters). I really like stem shifters and think it’s definitely an underrated location for shifters.

IIRC, this came up a few years ago. When my OC (Original Clementine) exhibited issues with the stock shifters, I decided to try a big honkin' stem shifter set I had in my parts department. My only issue with the particular setup shown here was the orientation of the clamp--and it is not reversible. But they made a similar shifter set with the shifters on the inboard side of the stem that don't get a range limit imposed by the struts of moose-style handlebars. I tracked down and bought a set but the bike was dismantled before any photos were taken.

Could not agree more. I have stem shifters  on my AHH and it’s the best most comfy ride ever. Thinking about replacing my downtube shifters on my Roadeo.

I have stem shifters on my MIT Atlantis with the IRD quill stem mount. I get three hand positons with Billie bars with no shifter interference. Using the hand grips I can be quite upright and 'see everything'. Then there is forward of the brake levers for cruising and the Diacomp stoker knobs for a more forward posture. Works great for me. Yes, that's a fishing rod holder on the basket.

I'll be trying it over the weekend.  It's supposed to be delivered today.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Just did a test ride with the new shifter. IT works great. Is the smoothest shifter I've used. I ordered one for the right side because it's a 1X setup. The shifting was very precise without ant drifting or need to tighten the bolt. I can see where one might prefer the longer lever but it's not going to be s problem.

Good idea? I bought the XC power ratchet thumbies this week. I may use this setup with a Billie bar.

Here's  a pic of them on the build,  they certainly don't look the same as the others, but work just great.

I vigorously approve of thumb shifters on the quill stem. I’m having fun debating with myself which one should be mounted higher. One hand shifts might be easier with the left on the bottom, but maybe on top.

I don't agree that stem shifters are the boss.  I have a gas pipe 80s Nishiki with them and I find them awkward.  If I rode the bike more, I would replace them with barcons.

Be that as it may I continue to offer my unqualified approval of J Imler’s proposed experiment of running suntour thumb shifters on the quill of the stem. Maybe it’ll work great. Maybe it won’t.

Has anyone tried to mount the new Silver shifters on a Paul bar thumb-shifter mount?

Will told me it needs the adapter, same as for the long Silvers.

Joe I’m behind on all this - is there an adapter? I looked around and can’t find it. Thanks!

Unfortunately not anymore. Paul Components used to make one but they discontinued it, right now there's no way to get Silvers on Pauls unless you can find used adapters.

Isn't the adaptor for transforming the original Silver shifters from bar-end to downtube this part? I did the switch for a friend (long Silvers kept poking her thigh or something) and that was the only extra I bought.

Nope, it's a base that sits on top of the Paul base, then the Silver shifter sits on that.

Thank Joe - hopefully one will become available soon! Looks like the internet it out.  But also, didn't Grant or Will say they're coming out with their own thumb mount in February hopefully? I do hope

Yep, the doohickey is only of use to folks like me who already have Paul mounts. I'd like to have tried it, but the Silver2 is working splendidly on a bar-end pod so I don't envision getting the new mount later.

I bought two sets of X - O shifters (aka Silver 2) today at RBW HQ. One set is going on barcon pods and the other on the IRD stem shifter mount. I’m going to put one set on my Atlantis but I haven’t decided which set. I’m leaning towards stem shifters.
