Hi, all -- I'm looking to trade my wife's 2021 Joe App size 51 (built by Analog, in Vt.) for a 55 Platypus or a 53 Gallop. It's a great bike but it's a bit heavier and little more trail-oriented than she really needs. Happy to provide more details/pics if anyone is interested. We're in Boston. The ideal trade would be with someone in New England -- I'd go pretty much anywhere -- but open to shipping. Thanks!

Re: Platypuses, I'd argue they've been more trail-oriented than your wife's 2021 Joe for at least a few years. Same tyre clearance and similar chainstay length but a slacker head tube angle (72 Joe vs 70 platypus) and a lower top tube. And as for weight I suspect given the extra stay, a 55 cm Platy would actually be heavier.

A Sam or a Homer would hit the brief of 'a little less trail oriented'. A Gallop would probably live in the 'predominantly tarmac riding' category in my opinion.

Good luck!

I may be half a degree or so off with those head tube angles, but looking at the few years' pre August '24 geo tables, the 55 platypus has had 1.5 degrees less than the 51 Joes.

thanks for this note, Ant, but we'll keep it open to either of those models, for the rest of the group.

If she can find one, a 55cm Cheviot is lighter duty than a Platy and still uses 135mm spacing 650b wheels, but you would need new brakes and probably brake levers, because it takes long reach side pull instead of V brakes.

Riv have described the Cheviot as a step through Homer
