I think it was Grant who made up this word, way back in the 1990s -- can anyone confirm (or correct)?

At any rate, it has made the big time, listed in a real, online urban dictionary (if it's online, it must be real): https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Beausage

I was perusing Craig Montgomery's touring Flickr album (wonderful, and I generally get bored after a few photos) where he used the term, so I Googled it and found the Urban Dictionary link. Yes, I'd heard about it long before this.

I know that Grant says that the word is pronounced "BEW-sij," but he's wrong. It is pronounced bow-SAHHJ, in the French manner, which is much more impressive.

Grant's preferred pronunciation rhymes with usage.  I prefer the French pronunciation. The value in the idea of beausage is of course, embracing wear on the bike by riding the bike.  Tim Petersen

I like the Grant pronunciation because it sounds like what it is. Beauty from usage.

Let's drift, show us your beausage. I'll start with my Rambouillet: New in '02, rear dropouts replaced in '04 with a full respray by Joe Bell. All visible mars earned since, except the rattle can ivory panels on the stays to cover bare tubes where the bridge was re brazed when it broke loose.

I think of this as a bit beyond Grant's term and suggest beausavage for this level of patina.

Yup, my memory says Grant, too.

BTW, "sausage" is pronounced sew-sij. Wait, no, that's not right. It's pronounced "saw- SAHHHJ." As we all know.

don't cringe when you see all the paint chipped from when it was locked on a sign post or bad rack.

I was SO hoping Pam would chime in here. I love that post about her Betty Foy. What are we at for miles now, Pam? I bet you’re close to 65,000. I should get an odometer on my bike - I know how many miles I ride per month and year (Apple Watch) but I don’t track the miles according to which bicycle I ride. Would be nice to know how many miles I get out of tires and components, too.
