I've been riding this a lot lately after finishing up the build over the winter ...and it's feeling very good

59cm Clem L , new batch 

44/34/24 Silver Crankset with an 18t cog in the back and a Paul Melvin tensioner.  

I'm usually in the 34 ring and will push into the 44 when moving along on flats.   The low 24/18 combo is pretty good for climbing , but I have't tested it out on a long climb with full saddleback.  That's the older large version btw. 

I'm loving riding on 29x2.35's (Thanks Adam) ...still need to wire up the tail light and I'm envisioning a Nitto basket rack with my large Wald up front .

Here's to hoping the New York State opens up those campgrounds before the summer is over

I'm curious why you choose 3 chainrings and 1 cog instead of 3 cogs and 1 chainring, given that the latter system is simpler (the latter requires just one chain management device instead of 2) and gives greater ratio variety for a given tooth difference. I'm not complaining, just asking.

That aside, me, I love 3 speeds.

Patrick, how would you build a shiftable 3-speed setup on a cassette hub that covers the gearing range J. has? I've done it his way on a couple bikes with a Paul Melvin, it's an easy way to knock out a derailer and shifter on a derailer bike while keeping a 'just enough' gearing range. Of course I see your point about two changers, but it's also a great excuse for a nifty Paul part 😬

I really just wanted to use the Melvin,...fun project. 

I'm sure I could've cobbled together a 3 speed cassette with spacers, etc and done it more like a 1x.  not sure about range though.
