Riv shipment just delivered, including the new seat, which I mounted right away for a neighborhood spin.  I find it immediately comfortable and am eager to try it on a longer ride; first impressions are very positive.  Have any of you ridden it yet?

Now for that new derailer/derailleur!

Huh - I'm curious.  Did you ever have the black plastic one they included with the 2016 Sam completes?  If so, how does it compare?

Just put one on and I'm not sure I like it... yet. The material is comfy but I can't tell where I should be sitting on it, if that makes any sense. Coming from an Ergon saddle the nose of the Riv saddle is super wide. That's my least favorite part of the shape.

Curious if any ladies have tried this saddle yet?
Building up an old Schwinn Continental for a friend and trying to decide which saddle to go with for her. Trying to put as much Riv spirit in the build as possible.

I think the width is good on the Riv but it seems too long, compared to the dimensions of a Brooks B-xx Short. The Brooks Shorts are ~40mm shorter.
But then again, being a rather full figured guy, I don't exactly know the importance of the shorter saddle for ladies and smaller riders, of which the friend is both.
Thoughts?

We are unfortunately too far inland for any place that has a saddle library for her to try different things also, so it's a buy and try situation for us.

Didn't. Looks comfortable. If it was a little bit narrower I'd keep it.  NWT. Never mounted.

With several more rides and miles, I am liking it more and more. I like the ability to move around on it. No soreness. Currently set up in a fairly upright position, around 60º or so.

The horn is still a little wider than I would prefer, but I guess I'm getting used to it.

If anyone is getting a recent complete and wants to sell this seat let me know.

Chris

Which Ergon did you use that has a narrower horn?

Curious if it's one of the wider Ergons for more upright riding.

I just purchased and it just doesnt work for me. I would echo Chris K in that I'm not sure where to sit on it. The nose of the saddle is a bit wide and I get pain below my left sit bone after longer rides. I think if it were just a tad narrower it would be work for me. Other than that it's a really nice saddle, well made and good materials.

I have it on my Platy currently. It replaced a Selle Anatomica H2 (at least for the winter). The SA was a tad too narrow since I swapped to slighly more upright bars. I haven't yet decided if the Riv saddle is too wide (by 1-2cm).  I don't really care for the wide nose of the Riv saddle, but I suppose I'll get used to it. I do like the flat shape and the amount of padding (minimal). It's good for a more upright ride due to the width.  I may use it on my wife's bike to swap out the Bontrager commuter saddle (wide).  When viewed from the side, the Bontrager commuter saddle has shoulders that slope down where the Riv saddle is a flat profile. We both prefer saddles that have a flat profile.  I've also ridden a VO wide touring saddle and the Riv saddle is wider both in the nose and the rear.

I replaced a Brooks Flyer Curved on my Xtracycle now Bafang E-bike that is about as upright as it gets.  Agree that at first I wasn't sure where this part of my sit bone connected to that part of the saddle.  After a few more rides, I simply forgot it was on the bike at all.  Given that with e-bikes you are constantly shifting the assist and the 9 speed derailleur to hit the perfect sweet spot, and I ride in City traffic, perhaps I was not as in-tune as i would be on a quiet country road.  I prefer it to the Brooks and don't miss the absence of the spring in the least.

My experience is likely comparing persimmons to cumquats for someone riding unupright on an analog bike.

Chris - I wanna say my Ergon saddle is the SR Allroad Comp. Nice basic saddle.

Bumping this thread!

I just made an order from Blue Lug and noticed they had them in stock. I decided to give it a try since saddles are always a thing and my brooks are all getting quite old and stretched. Now that the seat has been out for a few months I am curious how ya'll are feeling about it given more saddle time.

Very happy with mine which I put on the platypus first. I liked it so much I bought 2 more for my other bikes. One came a little lopsided but they replaced it promptly and I am a happy camper. The more I ride this saddle, the better I like it. I like it more than my Brooks at this point. Give them a try!

I sold all but one of my Brooks and Selle Anatomica's (I have a B67 if anyone's looking) and have replaced them all with Ergon SF and one Rivendell Clem saddle. I always wear regular clothes when riding and the Ergon SF is less uncomfortable than all the leather saddles were for me. The Riv is wide on the nose but so far is slightly more comfortable than the Ergon. I commute about 18-20 mile round trip most days in a fairly upright riding position.

Following up on my experience with the Riv saddle... I have a couple hundred more miles on it, with the longest ride about 25 miles. No soreness for me. I really like it. The wider saddle horn doesn't bother me anymore. Humans are adaptable I guess.

I briefly swapped it out for my old Ergon saddle and was like, nope, and put the Riv back on.

I’m still liking mine on the platypus. Still trying to decide if it’s right for the mountain bike. Maybe a bit too wide there.
