Riv Garage Sale hauls

I got there just before Riv open the sale. I chatted with people, some of whom I haven't seen before COVID! So many neat bikes that people rode to the sale. Here is my haul. People post what you got today!

I got Grant's Bosco-mooses and silver cranks. I think when I mount these, I'll ride it a bit with Grant's set up just to what it's like haha

I was prepped to get there before the sale started, really I was; but I had a <cough> diabetic incident at about 8AM, and it took a few hours before I was able to ride to BART. I got to RBWHQ at about 12:15, so I assumed that most of the plums had already been plucked. No rarefied tidbits like those I'd gotten in years past (Ambrosio Champion stem, 2 tweed Nigel Smythe saddlebags, TA Criterium cottered crankarm+chainrings).

I did find some useful stuff, though: A couple of Ukraine T-shirts that are usually out of stock when I'm in Walnut Creek (in sizes that aren't mine, but close enough); a regular Riv LS T-shirt, miscellaneous Schwalbe inner tubes, some TA toeclip cleats, a Sturmey Archer barcon. My real scores are intended for a Peugeot PC40 650B: A NIP AXA bottle generator, and a built 32H 650B wheel (Velocity Atlas + Shimano LX). Atlas is the only non-disc 650B rim Velocity stocks in 40H, which I need for a wheelbuild with a prewar S-A AW-7 with a 3-speed cassette, for 9 speeds on a townie bike with a chainguard).

Looking at your picks looks like you forgot to mention the coin keeper/purse. I have one, not Riv branded that I just dug out of my bag for parking meter change a few days ago. Wish I could have attended. Had it been a few more weeks out I may have tried.

I did neglect the coin keepers. Those were in a FREE! box along with several dozen of their siblings; same with the SKS minipump, which I grabbed because it's light and Schrader-only. Something to hand off to the first 26"/27"/29er rider I run into looking dumbfounded at their flatted tire). I also neglected the grey Cardiff rubber barplugs; I've got barplugs in all kinds of colors, but nothing in grey.

But my big mention-neglect is the Arundel locking pump head, which looks like a CNC version of the Hirame locking pump head cloned by everybody. I wonder who came up with the idea first?

Thanks for the input. Maybe my Riv garage sale skewer is indeed Ultegra. It looks a lot like this skewer on eBay, but this skewer is not identified as Ultegra. At any rate, I never thought I'd get heart palpitations from a skewer, but I do from this one. I thank Rivendell!

I had a nice haul, talked to great people, enjoyed a walk downtown and a long drive with my friends, and saw a ton of good bikes in the visitor pile. 

I brought some friends from up in Santa Rosa. We parked and walked up the driveway just as the gates swung open. I headed to the far end to work my way back, and got a quill faceplater stem and a carved C17 saddle right off the bat. No pressing need, but I had decided to stock up on my classic build parts. As soon as I posted this photo on Instagram/Facebook I sold both those items on to friends. 

I also scored 9 and 8 speed cassettes, a high rise threadless stem, a free coin purse, maybe a pump(?}, and a $3 bag of bolts and spacers (very exciting). A pair of $5 bells inspired me to put bells on all my bikes last weekend. The Sogreni went on the Quickbeam stem, even though that’s not my fanciest bike. 

The Suntour shirt is a 100 Tacos bootleg, and we traded some stickers as well.

Went big at the garage sale, haha. Picked up my first Rivendell. Easy-going grocery-getter :) Very excited about the bars too.

Also had a chance to talk with Rich Lesnik for a bit, which was a joy. Talked about working for an airline before Hands On Wheels/Rivendell. I've been wanting to get into wheel building for a while and asked him about tips when getting started. He said to avoid YouTube and pick up Gerd Schraner's book. I found a PDF online but the text was a bit funky, so I found an old one on eBay. Can make scans of it once it arrives if anyone would like a copy.

Took BART there with my green Joe Appaloosa. Rode back via Moraga and Orinda, then BART to Rockridge.

Pretty good haul: A small SaddleSack in great condition, a Sugino 75 cup & cone BB, two merino "Skins," zip collar LS under-layers @ $20 each (one now gone to a friend who had a birthday last week), LS Ukraine "Peace Wheel" shirt, a Clem coin purse to add to my collection, a Campy Racing T front der., A BOX rear (because ... $10!), chain rings, small bits and bobs (Bar end and clamp-on pieces), a Hobson Zingo quick link tool. 

And not least, the mysterious (to me) ENE Ciclo aluminum, bar tape end clamps!

Gotta say that Dave's $20 wool layers are the first forehead slappers among all the tales of haul and loot that make me really wish I had been there!

Eric, if it's any comfort, by the time I got there the wool base layers were all at the edges: XS, S and XXL. Normal American-people sizes were nowhere to be found. There may not have been any sizes in between, hence $20. Although David had clearly been there for awhile when I got there, as he was already carrying a decent amount of swag.

And Riv's sizings at various times have been..let's call it curious. The LS "Riv - since 1994" T-shirt I bought is tagged XL; it fits smaller than the medium LS Ukraine T-shirt from last year.

Philip, good writeup. And if you still have that 40H 650B rim, we should talk. I have a need for one, especially if it's a silver Velocity Atlas (fingers crossed and clapping for Tinkerbell). I've got to build a rear wheel with a prewar SA AW hub (+ 3-speed cog), to match the prebuilt 32H Atlas + Shimano LX wheel I posted above.
