One Shot for touch up paint

My Atlantis frame came in a week or so ago, and I’ve been slowly building it up. I temporarily took it out of the work stand and it only took seconds for the bars to swing around and chip the paint in the top tube. It didn’t bother me as I’ve planned on putting on a bunch of nice components and turning it into my “beater”, but it made me think of all I’ve read here about nail polish as touch up. Nothing against it, but One Shot sign paint is much better in my opinion and, based on what I saw for the price of nail polish and the quantity for that price, I think it’s more bang for the buck. The ivory is a near perfect match to Rivendells cream color. Here’s before and after pics

I like to add some kind of “design” with my touch ups. Von Dutch method.

I’m going to get a small can of Kansas City Teal this week. I believe that color with a touch of black and a little white will be a great match for the Atlantis color.

Any one else use something other than nail polish or stickers for chips?

Cool, Mike, and congrats on the new Atlantis! I'll be interested to see how the experiment with the Kansas City teal works out. Let us know the mixing ratios.

I looked at the One Shot color chart, and the Aqua seemed like it might have potential.

I've got some model paint from Mr. Color that someone recommended on the forum. I think (maybe) the Russian green (1). It's a little bluer than my Toyo Atlantis paint.

Hi Andrew -

One Shot appears to have three greens: Dark Green, Emerald Green and a color called Process Green. In my opinion, Process Green appears to be the closest to the Quickbeam Kelly/Coleman Green. It looks to be a little bit off, but probably comes closer than most paints available off-the-shelf.

The Kansas City Teal turned out to be too dark. I mixed it with Aqua and a tiny bit of black and it’s a ten-footer (looks good ten foot away). I need a different kind of green that I don’t have in my collection to mix with Aqua to make it acceptable to be called submarine green touch up. I’ve been spending more time playing with touching up the frame than I have building it up, so I’m done with the paint mixing for now. I’ll try again later.

Mike, this looks great! The three ivory dots were good, but the teal centers make it look even more purposeful. And I like the extra dots-in-dots on the fork crown.

I've always appreciated the Von Dutch approach to artful paint chip repairs. It's so difficult to get a true match that blends well, you almost always see it even if it's something simple like black on black. So why not make it a bit more special?

My '84 Miyata ATB had a big scrape on the downtube that wrecked the sticker decals (which were ugly to start with) so I got inventive with some purple holographic nail polish, clear enamel, and white 1 Shot (with black 1 Shot as a base for the purple). The nail polish was easier to apply with an actual paint brush instead of the brush in the cap, but it still got pretty thick and isn't entirely smooth. Maybe some mineral spirits could thin it and give a more uniform coat. 1 Shot was much easier to work with, as you might expect.
