For those of you who don't read BSNYC: https://youtu.be/tgUC0zyu4p0

90 "at the end of the year" and he still does 400-600 km per month.

Remarkable! Vigorous in mind and soul as well as in body. I suppose that his history counts for a lot in this: born into poverty in 1933, working from age 16 or so, growing up and living his professional life during "les trentes glorieuses" in what seems to be a non-mega-urban setting close to the countryside and with lovely cycling routes, close lifelong family ties.

At about 10:05: "at 75 I could still climb the Tourmalet and the Galabier ..."

And he does this without electric assist, and gets by with (apparently) Campy single pivots despite thoughts about falling at his advanced age.

Wonderful video. Cross posting because it might well interest those who don't belong to both lists.

"My youth is renewed like the eagle's."

I endowed thy purposes with words that made them known.

Well what a treasure that was. I loved the man and his bike and his story and his storytelling and his pile of siblings. What a great find, Patrick!

What a small world. I used to work with the filmmakers partner. They produce really beautiful images!

That was wonderful.

If  you move the cursor to the progress bar below the video but not stop, rewind or advance the frame , becomes a profile such as a ride route. Very subtle!

That imagery of progress in a person's biography projected as the profile of a route is extremely communicative, I got it immediately

Patrick, many thanks for sharing this inspiring video. I have an 85 year old acquaintance who reguarly rides his Joe App  When asked how he does it, his reply is "because I do it"! I will hit the 90 mark (hopefully) in 16 more years, so the plan is "to keep doing it":-)))

Best,
Rich in ATL

Wow, that math is crazy. How strange to think 90 is so close when you’re only in your mid-70s! I can’t believe how quickly years fly by; I was young when I first came to this forum, and now? Well.

I can hear the sadness in the man’s voice as he wonders which of his siblings will die first and also when he laments how he can’t ride like he used to. Time is a thief.

I was posting about this very thing on Instagram. There was a Christmas light ride in the heart of the city and I went with my older boy, who will graduate high school this year. He has my Dad’s Clem and I have my raspberry Platypus. I attached this photo, which shows me and my two sons on our inaugural ride on my Betty Foy, my very first Riv. That boy of mine is on the little blue Haro bike.

And now, that same son…

He is 6’ 1”, and on a 59 Clem. I’m not sure he’s done growing, either…

Time is a thief.

But, the trick is to simply keep doing it, so we can keep doing it. I think Rich’s friend has it right.

My fondest wish is to be that guy in 30 years. We share the same birthday, so it's a start!

Guys I rode with in college did a semester in Pau. They came back with stories of riding with a local club into the Pyrenees. They described the riders as "old mountain goats who tore off our legs and lungs." My friends were hard core xc skiers in college, and they had a hard time keeping up with old French guys.

Side note - that "route profile" at the bottom of the YouTube video is a histogram showing the relative amount of viewing time of each segment ... sort of a "popularity" measure of the segments. I like Andy's suggestion, though, that it's a metaphor for a person's life. Plenty of ups and downs.

My cycling goals that I set for 2023 were "Ride a lot. Enjoy it all." I didn't quite get to "a lot", but I can say I enjoyed it all.

Lovely film!

Ted,
I like your cycling goals for 2023. I think that this would make a great Riv t-shirt: 'Riding a lot and enjoying it all! Since 1994'

And I think your long-range goal of riding into your 90s sounds pretty great too!

Cheers, John
