All,
I'm looking to order the Rivendell Shiny rear rack but from the photos I don't see an obvious way to mount my B&M Toplight brake light. The light has 50mm bolt spacing. Have any of you installed one of these lights or other rear lights on the Shiny Rear Rack?

Thanks,
Doug

When I was running some wiring on a different bike, I bought some small nylon P-clamps at the hardware store and I think something similar would work to mount a light on rack tubing what lacked any mounting tabs.

Doug, we had the same issue with the shiny Riv rack on a Wilbury. I asked the fine folks at Rivendell, who suggested we rig something up with stainless band clamps (or P clamps), the Nitto versions of which (https://www.rivbike.com/products/nitto-band-clamps-pair) have been sold out for a long time, and M5 or M6 bolts and nuts. I found some good stainless clamps at the local hardware store and affixed a taillight plate to the rack with no issues at all. It’s stable, with no shake or quiver.

It’s a great rack, especially for the money, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one again. The only shortcoming was the lack of the tail light plate, and it was easily remedied with a couple of dollars for the clamps.

It's funny the places you see Riv biases show up. They use rechargeable lights on the bar and bag, it probably never occurred to them to put a light plate on that rack.

Ray and Jim,
I think I could come up with a solution but was hoping there was one I wasn't seeing in the product photos. Thanks for the feedback.
Joe,
I had wondered if Grant was a dynamo lighting guy but it seems he's into battery lights. I took my first trip down dynamo lane recently and I have to say I like it! No charging lights now which for me is one less thing to remember and worry about. I'll figure it out for the Shiny Rack or maybe splurge for a Nitto rack.

Busch & Müller has a mount for that purpose. I call it the "T" bracket. What's wrong with your Tubus rack?

Peter,
That is a photo from Rivendell's website showing the light. I don't have a rear rack currently but will look at the "T" bracket.
Thanks,
Doug
