Hi everybody! I'm looking to transfer my gf's Shimano 105 53-39 cranks onto a Rivendell Cheviot. I like the 53-39 here because she spends most of her time in the 39 but has the big gear when she needs it.

Will Cheviot chainstays clear this? I can't seem to find any information about this online.

Thanks!

I don't see a problem, I ran one with a 42t ring in the middle position of a triple which is where her 39 would be on a double. But test carefully, the spindle length is going to tell the story. I would get the BB on there right, then very slowly slide the driveside crank on and see if it's going to clear the stay. You want to see enough clearance with it snug they it will still have done frame-flex room after it's torqued down. Ask me how I learned to leave room for that flex 😩

clearance aside, she might not know what she's missing with the tiny ring. i have a wide low double sugino crank from rivendell with the tiny inner ring, and bashguard instead of a big/outer ring. having that small gear is really nice. but i do ride up a lot of hills living in san francisco.. . 39t is a big small ring for this bike
