Hello, Friends!

Since acquiring a Clementine, I’ve been moving and swapping bags and racks and bars and having an identity crisis as I navigate having two bikes. It turns out that I can’t seem to leave well enough alone, so I’m changing my bikes around. It also turns out that I find it stressful to have parts and gear unloved and unused. Rivendell makes fabulous things and they ought to be used, so I’m selling them to you. I have been making new (read: expensive) orders to Rivendell, so they will also benefit.

Here is the line up. Photos at the end.

1. Backabike bags, 1st generation. These are the best bags Rivendell makes, I don’t care what you say about the Saddlesacks! They are not fussy and are dead useful. Groceries, school bags, violins, small fluffy dogs - they’ve hauled it all. Backabikes are absurdly expensive but worth every red cent, and here’s a pair for you at nearly half-price. This version attaches to the rack via John’s Irish straps, which I’m including for you. I really like this system and find it preferable to the new leather strap and buckles because a thief won’t be taking these. The newer version has a stiffener in the back and therefore seems to carry less than these (I have both versions and that’s my assessment). The bags are structurally perfect and clean inside, but they show dirt on the outsides - you don’t have to be precious about these bags! $75, each, plus shipping.

2. Surly 24 Pack Rack. These sat on the sadly underused 52 Clem H in our garage. Dumped for an e-bike, can you believe it? A really cool rack, but no one is riding that big ‘ol Clem until my 13 year old hits a growth spurt and gets it. And when he does, he will refuse a front load. Someone will love this rack! $150 new, but yours for $110, shipped.

3. Two-Fish bottle cage. When Baby Bear was really little, his bike didn’t have bottle cage mounts. I decided to use this, but it didn’t fit around the downtube. I put it on the bars and then realized that could be disastrous for his face in a crash. Therefore, it was never used! Yours for $10, and we’ll see about shipping.

4. Bosco Bullmoose Bars. Nearly mint as they were on my MIL’s 52 Clementine (which I now have) and she did not put many miles on her bike. They are Cro-mo, that I know, but unsure of the size. Either 52 or 55 - whichever Rivendell sent out with their first run of Clems. I love a Bosco bar, but I like them to sit a little higher so I got a Bosco with a stem. This sturdier version can go on your bike instead! $85, plus shipping. I’ve gotta find a box big enough!

PM me for the items you can’t live without.

Hi All,

The bags and bars are gone. I am keeping the Surly 24 Pack Rack for now, but I’ll update this post if I decide to sell (I’ve had some interest recently) it later. I still have the 2 Fish cage.

Thanks!

Over 30 years into a marriage, I still hear on occasion that now age old query, "Are you working on your bikes again?"
My wife's a little slow. Or I am. One or the t'other.

And who can blame you? It’s 150 degrees in the part of the US we both live in. We have to do something!

After 30 years, her query is probably an endearment. Carry on, friend!
