First off... sorry to assume anything, but my spidey sense went off seeing this.

I met a man riding a BIG Homer today.  He couldn't straddle the bike and didn't know anything about Rivendell or the fancy wheelset on the bike.  He didn't mind my asking about the bike so my guess is it was stolen and changed hands a bit before he wound up with it.

I checked bike index and there is one blue Homer that is listed stolen in SF.  I reached out through BI, but haven't heard back.

Anyone missing a big HH??

Not the kind of bike you just buy without knowing about it.  As far as fit, Grant always used to say ride the biggest frame you can ;) 😉

This guy looked to be about 5’9” and the frame must’ve been a 65 cm.  He rode it with 1 foot on the pedal and the other dragging on the ground to slow him down. There was a can of Coca-Cola rattling around in an expensive titanium water bottle cage. bars were adjusted in a way that could not have been comfortable for anyone.

Thanks,

I believed you before, not a bike he acquired at a bike shop.

I found the owner!  He confirmed build details.  We will now try to track down the bike again.

Whereabouts in the City did you see the bike?

NE corner of Union Square and then on Jessie St. off 4th.  I get the impression he is there often.

So the bike is a 61.5 cm homer in blue and white with blue bar tape on drop bars and Phil Woods hubs laced to Mavic rims.  Keep an eye out!

I spoke to the owner of the stolen Homer.  He is offering a reward for any help leading to the recovery of the bike.  His name is Carl -(415) eightOsix-O5two5

so again:
61.5cm Blue/White Homer
Rival Cranks
White Industries to Mavic wheels
Blue Tape on Drop bars

Last seen at Union Square and on Jessie St at 4th

Thanks!

I don't have a dog in this fight since I live way across the country, but I'm curious.  If someone finally spots this bike and the individual (I won't say "thief" because the bike may have been sold since the theft) who's riding it in an approachable location, exactly what does one do about it?  From what I've seen and heard about what the police in the Bay Area are either willing or able to do in cases like this (think the recent decriminalization of shop lifting) how are you going to go about getting the bike back from the current "owner"??  I hate to say it, but these days it seems like the simplest and least confrontative thing to do would be to simply "steal" it back when he or she is not looking.
