More Sams less Scams

Hello all, I was victimized by the aforementioned scammer you may have heard about in a previous post by our moderator Cyclofiend Jim. In good faith I paid for Albastache bars that didn't exist. Rather then waste any more negative energy on ranting about how horrible this person is I am going to instead flip the switch and talk about why I love my Rivendell bicycle. Will you keep the positive energy going by responding in kind?

Yesterday I was riding in Analog Cycles annual 4x4 event. I was happily under biking with my Sam Hillborne on the notoriously rocky and muddy unmaintained roads of Vermont known as class IV.

Although the ride was well attended at one point I found myself alone, just me and 2TT beloved Sam Hillborne. As I was crossing the ridge I looked out at the impossible beauty of the Green Mountain state I thought about all of the ways my life has been enriched by this Rivendell bicycle. A simple machine but I have a connection to this bike that only readers of this forum will understand. I realized how lucky I am to have my health and the financial means to own not one but three Rivs. I am thankful for this small community we call RBW Owners Bunch.

Let's keep this positive energy going! Tell me why you love your Rivendell.

I do not have a Sam, but I love the positive post. I've had so many good interactions on this list! Here's my recently cleaned up Bleriot. The new to me rear derailleur, pannier, and basket bag are from group members.

I concur.  Watching the waves role in, the sound of the surf and the feel of the gears - life on a Riv is pretty darn good.

Me too, Tim. Me too. Actually, my Sam IS the reason I got scammed. Been trying to find an r32 rack for so long that when “Richard Garcia” appeared with legit pics of one, I sent first and asked questions later. Booooo!

Anyhow, here’s my Sam in its latest form. Just upgraded from an XT RD to an XTR Rapid Rise. Dreamy shifting now.

 Might get some Paul Racers to upgrade the Tektros one of these days.  Who knows?

I bought my Sam in 2009 and now it's not my oldest bike, but it is the bike in my possession that I have possessed for the longest time.  That bike is also responsible for a large conversion of my general attitude and approach to cycling and bicycles.  Sam made me a grown-up.  :)  

It lives in my office in Wayne County Michigan, and I photographed it this week to capture build details that I sometimes forget between visits.  Here's a couple of those shots:
