front derailleur on a Gus?

Gathering parts for my Gus Build. I had this deore fd on my Clem. It worked just fine but I changed it out to a nearly identical XTR for cheap. So I can use the Deore on the Gus. My question; are there interference issues on a Gus / Susie between a front derailleur and the seat tube water bottle mounts? A quick measurement from the Clem suggests it may be close. I will not know for sure until I have a crank in hand but trying to plan ahead.

I don't think you'll have any issues. I have a low clamp XT front derailer set up to clear a 46t big ring on my Gus and it's still a cm or so below the lower water bottle boss. I'm imagining that you'll probably be running smaller rings than that, since it appears you have a derailer designed for a double and not a triple, the shorter cage of which will also let it go lower without hitting the chainstay. It does cover the Silver tubing sticker if you care about that.

Is the Gus seat tube ovalized down at the bottom like the Susie? I seem to remember being the case.

If so, I ran into an issue trying to fit a low clamp FD with a 24-34-guard setup on a Silver crankset on my Susie. Clamp would have been on the ovalized portion.

Now you have me wondering. But, I think it is round.

Well I’ll be, the seat tube most definitely IS ovalized. But, it happens pretty abruptly at the very end. It’s definitely round just a bit below the bottom cage boss - just enough to squeeze that rear der. in there I think. I am missing the correct spacers to test fit it but just holding it there looks promising.

Apologies if I haven't understood your question correctly, but if there is interference between the derailleur clamp and bottle cage, you could consider using these spacers to create extra clearance:
