I'm selling my 2011 size 58 Waterford-manufactured Hunqapillar. I'm the only owner. I bought it directly from Rivendell during a brief overlapping period when Rivendell was producing Hunqs in Waterford (mainly green ones) and in Taiwan (mainly grey and red ones). I'm making this post as detailed as possible, anticipating any questions that might come up. If you still have questions after reading through this post, looking at the myriad technical specs on Bike Insights, and checking out the photos, please reach out.
The Hunqapillar is my favorite Rivendell, and my favorite bike, period. I see it as an evolutionary bridge in Rivendell design. It is neither the "short wheelbase, short chain stay" that characterized early Riv design, nor is it the "super duper long wheelbase" of the more recent Riv designs. These terms are relative, as Rivendell has always advocated longer wheelbases for comfort and stability. A ton of their earlier literature attests to this. I love its proportions, the diamond, and the diagonal middle down tube, which is the icing on the cake for me. The green color is fantastic, and the bike is just beautiful. To my eyes it has a classic and a modern look at the same time.
And it performs amazingly. It is incredibly stable, comfortable, and confidence-inspiring under all circumstances and on any terrain. It's a true all rounder. You can load it up front and rear to your heart's content, and it'll smile back at you. You can confidently tour off road or on pavement, loaded or unloaded. It handles all types of gravel, single track, dirt, rocks, with equal aplomb. You can ride it on your commute with utter joy. It has been up to any task I directed it into.
I have maintained this bike meticulously. It fits up to 60mm tires according to Rivendell. I usually ran 50s and 55s. I recently installed a new IRD Roller Bearing headset (the one with with roller/needle bearings in the top and bottom assemblies, not that one that Riv sells, which has roller bearings only on the upper part), a NOS XT front derailleur, and new shift and brake cables and housing, and Polished Paul Neo-Retro brakes and Canti Levers.
It has never been in a crash. There are no dents or dings, and it is structurally sound and in alignment. Overall the bike is in remarkable condition. There is beausage. It has superficial paint chips here and there. I've dabbed clear nail polish on some of them, and haven't bothered with others. There is chain rash on the drive-side chain stay. There is surface rust on the tab that the back fender connects to.
Real, serious space constraints made this sale necessary. The fact that I have two other Hunqs, including this one, and a Toyo Atlantis, made it palatable. I wouldn't dream of selling this bike otherwise.
