The new custom is basically a copy of the old custom. I have attached a PDF (with photos) from Grant describing my original custom as it looked when delivered. I made some changes over the years. Notably swapped out the Berthoud Aspin saddle for a Fizik. This was a Fizik saddle with a torn leather cover which was recovered by Carson Leh in Texas. I also had a Schmidt dynohub on the front. My original custom was stolen in April 2021.
The new custom has basically the same angles - we used the same spec sheet, and the frame was also built by Mark Nobilette - but I asked for clearance for 38mm tires and cantilever brake posts. The original custom fit 35mm tires at best. The fork was the limiting factor. The rear brake bridge had room. I asked for lug carving. Mark gave me a couple lugs on which to draw cut-outs for Mark Nobilette. I also asked for full custom paint. That means cream in the windows of the brake bridge, lug cut-outs, chainstay windows, etc.
Carson Leh no longer recovers saddles. He recommended a guy in Australia. The new saddle is also a Fizik - but covered in Kangaroo leather embossed with the Rivendell logo. The original custom had 48cm Nitto Noodle bars and SRAM S500 brake levers. This time, I went with Albastache bars, and SRAM S900 levers based on Bill Lindsay's recommendation.
The original custom had an Ultegra 8 speed derailer, 8 speed 11-28 cassette, and Ultegra Hollowtech cranks with 34 and 48 tooth TA Specialites chainrings. The new custom also has an Ultegra Hollowtech crankset with the same rings, but a SRAM 10 speed rear derailer and SRAM R2C (return-to-center) bar-end levers. The cassette is and XTR 11-36.
The wheels on the original custom were built by Peter White. The first set had Velocity Fusion rims. Rear hub was a Chris King cross hub. The new custom has Onyx hubs laced to Velocity Quill rims built by Rich Lesnik.
Mark sent mail this week that the build is done. He wants Rich to look over a couple of issues. I plan to pick up the bike next week. I will post pics if you don't see any from Will or Grant (or maybe even if you do).

Corwin
