ISO: Bar tape: bright orange, as new, comfortable, durable, cheap, in that order more or less

Before I buy retail, what do you have? The bright orange bar tape on the British Racing Green Matthews “road bike for dirt” (sorry, Greg) is wearing through in patches. I want to keep the orange accents. 

What do you have?

Qualities in order of importance:

Bright orange

New condition

Comfortable (I don’t wear gloves in warm weather)

Durable

Cheap

Have some (from first few miles) comfortable, durable, and nice-looking VO tape to trade, plus other things, even cash.

Will also appreciate suggestions (and retail links) for the above.

Jock: Thanks. Yes, it does add a nice aesthetic touch.

Ben: Nice Roadeo and a very pretty bar. But I seem to go through tape rather quickly, so I’d prefer not to have the work of Newbaum’s and shellac.

Kim: The Checkered Orange is almost, almost … but as above I’d prefer a single padded layer.

Some months ago I bought 6 or 8 packages of decent foam tape that VO was blowing out for $5 per box, in blue and what I thought from the photo was a deep orange. This last turned out to be more red than orange; alas, because it’s nice tape — thick, comfortable, grippy for bare hands and for DeFeet wool gloves; but it won’t preserve the “real orangey-orange” theme I want to preserve for wholly insignificant but non-negotiable reasons.

Stop presses! I just looked more closely and see that the Sefas tape is foam backed. This goes to the top of my list. Thanks, Kim.

Patrick, I bought some BBB Race Ribbon Tape last year and I really like it as it both padded well and grips well. It's EVA cork flake effect tape. The yellow is actually quite bright, it's on my Bombadil. Ben's lists orange but doesn't have an actual photo, but I suspect it too is bright also. What's the point of orange if it isn't bright ?!!!  If you email Ben's I bet they'll take a photo of and send it to you. Needless to say, they're a favorite online bike shop of mine !

Didn't see if anyone had suggested SOMA "thick and zesty" bar tape. They have a partial cork version too with their tangerine color which looks like bright orange to me. $15.99 so not particularly cheap by my standards, though I've paid a lot more for Fizik tape. The cork mix version is a dollar less, go figure. I think of SOMA bartape as inexpensive but I forgot that's because I get it at their occasional big sales.  --Mitch Harris in the Utah Wasatch
