Rene Heres 650 X 55 Umtanum ridge tires in the Endurance casing.

Probably have about 300 miles on them.  Side lugs still have some "hairs" on them.

Decided I wanted to ride some wider tires on my Susie.  Little dirty but tons of life.

Interesting. I’ve just changed the tires on my Gus from 2.6” Honcho’s to 2.22”(?) Super Yummy’s. I actually liked the Honcho’s so this is just an experiment. What larger tires are you considering?

Richard - I actually went back to the Travail Ehlines in that like 2.3. I am debating maybe trying the 2.5s, just not sure if the rim will be big enough (Velocity Atlas).

I really liked the Rene's but I felt like I just waned something bigger.  I know it's like 0.1 bigger but when I ride the Ehlines I just feel more comfy on them and I feel like it fills out the clearance on my Susie.  Im switching it out to be as dirt capable as possible since that's all I ride.  im actually ditching my XTR Rapid Rise for a more modern XT with a Clutch, and the Sliver friction shifter for an index trigger.

Ben, interesting. When I built my Gus I bought a Cliffhanger wheelset (dynamo) that included the Honcho’s. They do fill the clearance nicely & set up tubeless the ride is sublime. But they are sluggish feeling until they get rolling.

Seemingly unrelated, I decided to resurrect my 2001 Trek 26” MTB with its mint MUSA aluminum frame. I converted it to a rigid single speed & installed Simworks Homage 1.95” tires, mint green of course! To my surprise it is now a 22lb. ripper! The 32 x 16 gear is perfect for my local trails. It’s a “just right” gear for the flats & low enough for the mild hills. This got me very curious.

So, I converted the Gus to a 2 x 1 drivetrain. 38 x 20 with a 22 x 20 bailout. I dropped 2.5 lbs. It is really fun. So I am trying the smaller 2.22 tires hoping they will feel a bit more lively but nervous they will not ride as good or be grippy enough. I will have to wait to find out as we just got a foot of snow.:)

BTW, the new tires are kind of dwarfed by the Honcho’s. The biggest difference is not the width but rather the height. This baffles me. I think the difference is at least 3/4”!
