ordered a silver sifter last week to take the place of a currently used shimano shifter on Paul thumbie to use the shimano shifter on another bike and I just could't get the Silver+Paul friendship to happen. Then i remembered there being an adapter years ago which has disappeared from the internet. Has anybody figured out a hack for this? If not I'll be parting with the silver shifter, I've got too many Pauls thumbies and bar end shifter pods to get stuck buying more stuff for proprietary parts.

thanks for reading

There's always the option of Rivendell's Silver Shifter 2 mounts.  I have them & they are really clever.  The way the shifter is located provides 16 positions (not all of them useful, of course) so you can fine tune the lever location to suit yourself.  They tout it as providing a variety of cable directions but don't mention how useful it is for customizing the lever orientation.  Check them out on Riv's website.

I'm using my silver 2 shifters on the Atlantis with Paul thumbies and adaptors - works well for me. Maybe someone has some adapters lying around? It wouldn't hurt to ask.

I'm curious to see pictures of what the adaptors look like. I have searched the net in the past and it seems to be wiped of any information regarding them. Perhaps a bigger conspiracy at hand.

Kidding.

Thanks dougP, I'm familiar with the shifter mount, which look great. But as I said, I'm not interested in spending more money on more proprietary parts. These are lean times for me with what's going on in the world so I'm trying to make what I have work. It was my mistake, forgot that the Riv Silver shifters needed adapters.

Michael these are the adapters that I remember

Justin,
Have you contacted Paul? They often seem to do special request kinda things for customers. I doubt they'd make new ones, but could very well have a few somewhere that aren't worth listing on the website. Can't hurt to ask.

I had checked w/ Paul a year or so ago....this was from Gary the sales fellow
"Rivendell ended up being the only entity that ordered them, and even then it took several years for them to eventually buy the whole last run, so from a financial standpoint I don’t think we can do it."

Update: Apparently someone here has made this work, but I tried a Silver2 with adapter on a Paul Thumbie and the barrel is too big on these new shifters..it rubs on the part where the cable goes in. I ended up using an old Silver1 I had around.
