So what options exist for converting Silver-1 barend shifters to thumbies? That don't cost a fortune - $60-$70 per shifter seems just crazy honestly. Is there anything more reasonable?

As near as I know the only game in town are the mounts sold by Riv for that exact purpose, which you must be familiar with but I’ll link here anyhow: https://www.rivbike.com/products/z558mz-cnv-oialk. Paul used to sell adapters for their Thumbie mounts, but they are neither 1. cheap nor 2. currently in production, so would require some scrounging.

Yeah, the Riv ones I knew about. 90 bucks just to mount shifters is really expensive, though. I was hoping there was another option LOL. Maybe some will come up used.

Yeah, not worth it just for the mounts. For a few dollars more(great movie !), you can buy the IRD Power Ratchet thumb shifter from ebay for $112.85.  I've purchased lots stuff from hat seller over the years.

The Dia Compe ones are $125 from various sellers on ebay too.

i believe Velo Orange, and IRD have their own versions as well which are a little bit less.

depending on how comfortable you are with sourcing parts of questionable origin, but there are some options on aliexpress that look to at least be compatible, but you run the risk of ending up with problems like poor tolerances or bad threading.

If you are eager to acquire the X and O thumbie mounts that Rivendell sells and want to pay less than 45 dollars each for them, maybe just say how much you want to spend, and maybe somebody who has a set will sell them to you.  Or maybe you have something that retails for $90 that you no longer want and you could trade?  There are ways to shake things loose in this community.

I use the MicroShift road thumb shifter mounts with the silver shifters.

They are very nicely made, work great, and the pair comes in at less than $40.

That's an awesome find.  The hinged ones Riv sells are "easier" to install for folks who already have their grips installed and can't/don't want to remove them, but for a fresh flat bar build, those Microshifts are awesome.

The other thing about the Riv ones is that they will fit 26.0mm which can be super slick if you want to put it on the tops of your Noodle bars.  For those using them as 22.2mm shifters, that may be a downgrade, because you have to use shims, and you'll probably be annoyed if you lose one.

Anyway, a set of each in the shifter box would be a strong nice-to-have.

Do these work with Silver-1 shifters?  I don't have -2's, I have -1s.

If they work with Silver-2, they will work with Silver-1.  The mounting interface for both variants is the same.

ooh, I thanks for the tip on the microshift mounts. Think I'll try some of those out, I don't like how fat the riv silver thumbie mounts are. The versatility and hinge are useful, but I'd rather have something less obtrusive.

The Velo Orange thumb mounts are similar to the ones Riv sells but they don't have as many detents and orientation options. I used these with Silver 1s on an old mixte. They're $70 for a pair.

I’ve found that the Silver mount’s ability to adjust the “takeoff angle” makes it worth its higher price because it lets me keep the grip area forward clear of interference from the shift cable. Here’s how they look on Albatross bars on my Yves:
