Yes indeed! So I did what must be done. I rode my Riv.

If only you had gotten that fatbike!  :)

A fatbike would have been useful!

Surely! SRAM Apex 11-speed shifter, this is the flatbar alternative for their road derailleurs. I have arthritis in my wrists with the right one being significantly worse so I flipped the shifter over thumby style to the left side. It's way-super-easy to shift that way, on a Bosco I think it actually works better than underbar.

Mated to a SRAM Rival 1 with SunRace 11-50 cassette, I added the Garbaruk cage and pulleys to make that 50t a little easier to reach.

While not California snow, we did get 10 fresh inches in Minneapolis this week and I chose the Riv over the Fat for my weekly coffee, donut and Jamaican beef patty run.

W240s to the rescue and a beautiful sunny day in the 20s for a ride.

I should have ridden my Roadini today, but I hadn't planned on the road closure on highway 9 changing my plans --- I ended up riding over the top of Black Mountain instead. The Roadini with 38mm tires would have made short work of the traverse from Montebello Raod to Page Mill road, but instead I had to do a bit of walking on my Ti frame:

It's pretty neat to see the Joe Custom in the snow... not something I ever expected to see. I went for a ride today that was _supposed_ to become a snow ride based on the forecast, but it was just those tiny frozen pellets that just pummelled my eyeballs but didn't accumulate.  However, since my afternoon ride there has been three inches (and counting) of snow accumulation.  So tomorrow I shall get out for some "Riv winter riding" photos (unless I take the mountain bike instead... which is likely at this rate)

Interesting setup, Joe!
So do you shift both up and down with your left index finger?
cheers,
Andrew
(Painstakingly pecked out on my iPhone; please pardon my brevity and tpyos.)

Thanks Andrew! I push the big paddle with my thumb, the smaller/higher-gears paddle lays flat and I hit that with my index finger (push-push system, there's no pull-back trigger like Shimano RapidFire). It's so remarkably easy, it works like SRAM designed it that way.
