It was mentioned in the other thread that this is year 25!

There should be a gathering of some sort. Bay Area hopefully. Samuel P Taylor? China Camp?

When?

Let’s plan!

I'd be game! SPT is within a easy day's biking of SF BART and you can take several interesting routes to get there (trail, Pavement, HWY 1, etc.) with plenty of refueling and breweries along the way. I've got several routes already made up with most ridden, so I know what level of effort they'd require.

No idea when though, unless we want to wing it and not worry about rain...

The 20th was during summer & it was kinda toasty at China Camp.  Good thinking on getting a jump on planning.

If we get enough commitment to make booking it feasible, the Mendocino
Woodlands (near Fort Bragg, in the Jackson Demo Forest) would be an
amazing venue --

Fellowship of the Rigs

Poetry.

I'm bad at planning, but I'm good at following instructions. Provisional +1 as well.

I am staying-at-home-Dadding through at least May so I’m probably able to help plan and such if people want.

I'm in. Samuel P is easy for me (a train ride away), but the Jackson Demo Forest sounds more Tolkein, and I've never been.

The Jackson Demo Forest sounds intriguing, and likely new turf for lots of us.  Being near Ft Bragg, the Lost Coast is accessible for those who may want to extend their visit.  Maybe lure a few people from Portland as well?

Hey folks,
Here is a quick survey to get the ball rolling on the 25th anniversary not-meeting of Rivendell Riders. Anyone who wants to collaborate PLEASE be vocal. I'll reach out to Riv and see how much/little they want to be part of it directly or indirectly.

Thanks!

The form was "messed up" for a second. 2 people replied already and should re-fill the form out.

Thanks for setting up the surveys, Justin. Brilliant. I read the choices as a continuum of "No - Tolerate - Meh - Yes."
Samuel P Taylor looks like the clear winner, whichever way I weight the responses. It's pretty nice out there. Lots of nice cheeses out there, cooler in summer (the big issue with Diablo), and still wine country accessible*. Good jumping off place for people like Doug who'd like to check out more remote areas.

I'd like to do the Demo Forest for sure, but it doesn't need to be for the Fellowship/Entmoot. As people say, that option adds transport hours to the weekend. I might be up for taking extra time for extended shenanigans after the Riv meetup.

*I like the Alexander Valley and Calistoga better than 'Deepest Napa.' I know a business that provides drivers (and winery itineraries) for visitors in their own rental cars. They pick up anywhere, and the SMART train goes from southern Marin almost to Healdsburg. You could conceivably take the train to the airport, pick up a rental AND a driver, hit 4 wineries, and end with a stunning evening train ride back to (near) SPT. A contingent of riders could do something similar by bike, possibly even overlapping a car-based group. Disclaimer: I drove for this company in the Fall of 2016.

Philip-
Yeah it’s shaping up to be July at Samuel P Taylor. Gives lots of to-and-fro route options, camping, assorted trail shenanigans and is civilized enough for non-biking partners and kids to join.

I agree on Diablo. It sounds nice until you look at it in the summer without sunglasses and your eyeballs get a sunburn. Just too hot.

Hammocks are verboten in samuel P tho. Be forewarned all who may go.

Keep up the good work. Keep in mind that those traveling from afar may be interested in some extra options prior or after. Maybe nothing official but if anyone wants to meet greet and show some non-Californians some sights and sites via bike might make friends for life.
I road a motorcycle several thousand miles to attend and after a very warm ride up Mt Diablo 5 years ago. Enjoyed China Camp immensely but was slightly disappointed it peetered out early after Saturday night. If I recall correctly most of the Sunday rides were scrapped. It was not overly tragic because the personal relationship created trumped the riding IMO.

Wally,
If you host yours on a separate date I would plan to hit both coasts if possible.

I love Rivendell, fellow riders, camping, and travel.

This sounds intriguing. I like Joe's idea on the Mendo coast but it would make it a lot more difficult for out of town folk.

I think having the meet up in Marin is the best idea, given Mt Diablo's summer weather possibilities, but nothing is stopping those of us who might want to take a bit more time to mosey on up to Mendo. I've ridden Jackson Demo and it has some flowy single track, and it even has gnarly black diamond runs in case anyone wants to bring their Rivendell Sauron. Lost Coast would be great too.

Hi!

Is the Bay Area 25th anniversary meeting still happening? Did it move to a separate mail list? I’m planning a trip to San Francisco and would love to combine it with this ride.

Thanks!

Hey!
Been off the Google Groups/Out of the Country/Prepping to swap careers.

Each campsite is regulated for 10 people + 3 cars. Clearly there's more interest and from what I've seen there will be plenty of room for all of us. Just be nice, be cool and don't be weird.

If you want to bring a car, PM me and I'll get you a pass. First come first served.

To be clear - I'm just facilitating these campsites and since my name is on them I am going to go out there and say: be respectful, be kind and be aware. If you are disrespectful, unkind or unaware I'll let you know. If you can't stop you'll be asked to leave.

Apparently it's sometime in July at Samuel P. Taylor Park in Fairfax. There used to be a date in this thread but it gone.
