I'm still sorting the Monocog's cockpit. The stem is now 9 cm and 17* up, from 11 cm and 10*, and the bar is now a reasonable 56 cm, but I'd like a bar with a bit more sweepback, but no or very little rise, and short, short, short -- 56 is about right.

Rivendell used to sell an "Arc" bar, flat, curved, not too wide. Does anyone remember that?

Soma sells this one, which is out of stock but looks pretty likely, flat and 57 cm:

Are there others of the sort out there?

Are there other design options to give me similar results?

And are there any of either in black with a 31.8 mm clamp area?

I know I can swap my stem, but if a 31.8 clamp exists, I'd save a few $$.

Photos show current bar for comparison. First has the original stem, inverted:

Second shows it now:

This high, with more sweepback might be just right.

Thanks.

Patrick:

Here's a good compilation of bars with lots of dimensions:

Lets you overlay bars for comparison.

If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, there's this person who makes custom bars in chrome and molly for like a hundred bucks(for black, +50 for silver). Apparently he is in your city, so you might just be able to see him in person an express exactly what you're looking for, or check out all his bars he has on hand. https://www.instagram.com/doom.bars/?hl=en

Doug: Thanks for reminding me of that database. The Daija Far Bar looks likely -- 44, black, 31.8.

Garth: Thanks; I didn't know of this person. $100 isn't expensive for new bars, but it is dear for this bike.

All: I swore not to put any $$ into the Monocog, but it looks as if I must breach my troth. Still, perusing the bar database will let me look for likely bars that come up for sale used and cheap; then of course the stem, again. And, I want to replace the crank, which probably means bb too. Might as well upgrade to a CF seatpost and new wheels. Oh well.

The Simworks Little Nick stealth bar ticks all the boxes I think, though you pay extra for the small-batch nature of it.

Thanks, but no, that has only a 15* sweepback, probably much like that on my present bar.

My bad, I had it in my mind you wanted modest back sweep.  Jones Bend can be cut pretty short, but it does have a little bit of rise (1/2" I think?). Are you looking to keep your hands about the same far forward but with more sweep angle, or do you need the bars to pull back as well for shorter reach? I'm not a fan of bars with too much "pull back" for rigid MTB type use because they always end up twisting on me when I hit a big bump, but YMMV

Someone offered to send me photos of a Jones, so I'll take a look when he does.

A small rise won't hurt.

I want to get my hands about an inch further back at the same level as the bar is now; at least, I think that's what I want, with the option of grabbing nearer the clamp for more reach and a slightly lower back. I agree that too much sweep is not good off road, tho' this bike won't be seeing much singletrack. I thought of the old "Arc" bar, and Soma's copy; but the Daija Far Bar is a narrowish "wide" flat flared drop that I might try, too. The present bar had more sweep until I knocked off 3 inches per side, now it doesn't come back far enough -- fix one thing, mess up another. Still, it's better than 76 cm, at least for me!

I tried Surlys Open Bar on another bike, thinking it might give me a rearward grip with a more forward one at the curves, but I had to trim 2-3" off each side, and the result wasn't as comfortable as I'd hoped.
