It's ludicrous bordering on offensive. I know business is business but I'm an old fart who's been around the Rivendell thing since it was first a thing and I think we should have a modicum of respect for each other. Offering a scratched frame at such a premium over original list is just rude.

This is a gotta have price. I'd buy a 53 in a heartbeat if it was the green but it's not a gotta have and I would pay good money for one but not that kind of money for one that's in that condition. I've owned and sold several Rivs over the years but never considered hanging a ridiculous price on them.  I don't care if people try to make a dollar. That's business but for me cycling is a hobby not a business. To each his own.

This has been discussed here before but the pricing reflects the lack of availability of these frames. Any highly sought after, out of production frame may command a premium price. The gus and susie's pretty much immediately achieved cult status and Riv has indicated they won't be made again. All that to say while I may not agree with the pricing on this particular frame, some things just don't fit the typical pricing mold for second hand goods. My 2c.

This is true.  Nobody is obligated to price their stuff any particular way.  Still, I frequently say that in a just world, every second hand item would be priced at half-retail.  By that rule, that lugged Susie on eBay is proof that this is not a just world.

The high-price justification that I've seen from time to time on out-of-production Rivendells is:  "Here is a 58cm Rambouillet frame set.  Since it's out of production, the only way to get one is to pay for a Custom, and those are $4000 with a two year wait, so I'm asking $3600 and you don't have to wait!"

Pretty iron clad logic there.

FWIW, I put an offer in on this frame back in the fall/winter when it was originally listed. I think I offered $2250 and the seller declined.

I had a 50cm Susie I was getting ready to build and wasn't sure if I had the right size, hence the bid and I had someone willing to buy my 50cm frame. I built it anyways and it fit after all.  Win for me. Couldn't be happier.

Curious to see what the seller ends up taking for it.

They rejected 2250?? Me-thinks seller has been told it's got to go and they want to keep it 🤣

As these are considered rare I wonder which are the scarcest? My guess is the fillet brazed Gus being threadless & 1-1/8”. And the orange ones in particular? Just guessing here. I remember someone here once opined that the Gus was the most “Riv” of all the Riv’s. Maybe?

My personal opinion is they're generally considered to be a frame that didn't sell particularly well and are now gone. Rare? Yes. More valuable because of this? Depends on the buyer I guess. I had a Susie and miss it but it was kind of a headache sourcing the right 73mm square taper bottom bracket, and getting the big tires it was designed for to clear v-brakes was nigh impossible..it's better with cantilevers.

I like the Gus a lot and would grab one maybe someday for the right price, but I'm not the "it's rare and valuable" buyer folks might be looking for. That's ok, other people can buy them!
