Finished building up my 54.5 cm Roaduno yesterday and took it for a short test ride. Very smooth! Slack seat tube angle! Amazingly tall stack height! In terms of the last, I’m concerned that the stem I’m using is too short and that the wedge is tightening against the threaded part of the steerer; I need to measure. Size-wise, I’m very pleased. For reference, my saddle height is 73cm from center of crank to top of saddle.

I have it set up as a single speed now, but will likely go for a 2 x 1 configuration once I’ve finished building a set of wheels (vintage Phil Wood hubs and Sun M13 polished rims). Current bolt-on wheels are from my Milwaukee single speed, which can only run max 30mm tires without fenders. As shown the Roaduno is set up with 700 x 44 RH tires, and there’s ample clearance. I’m very happy about that.

Mine is a 61.5, saddle height is not set finally, but is not far off my goal of 80-81cm

@shoji, I think there’s ample room for fenders. However, those Mavic rims are fairly narrow; I haven’t measured the tires, but I’d guess they’re a bit short of 44mm wide.

@ryan, current gearing is 45/18, which is largely a flatland gear for me. I’ll likely go with 44/28 x 20t freewheel when I convert it to 2 x 1.

I have some hankering to take this bike to ride Cino in Montana next month, but then I’d need to go with 3 x 1 gearing with a serious climbing gear.

Pic from today’s ramble. Did a fair amount of out-of-the-saddle climbing, and bike felt stable and responsive. It’s growing on me! Still plan a 2 x 1 mod soon.

Okay, time for Roaduno v. 2! This configuration is a 2 x 1 with a Stronglight 99 crankset with 44/28t rings, a DuraAce rear derailleur as a chain tensioner, a SunTour Cyclone front derailleur, an SRAM 8-speed chain, and a Shimano 105 shifter. I was very glad to see the hole under the bottom bracket was drilled for a bolt-on cable guide. Took it for a brief test ride, and all was quiet and smooth. Hopefully, I'll get out for a longer ride later this week.

This looks incredible and has me quite tempted. Initially I wanted to wait for a homer or roadini but seeing these (and the price point) has me considering! I've seen a few set up with cassettes as traditional road bike. How are folks pulling that off?

The Roaduno has 120mm rear spacing. Bill L used an obscure cassette hub, modified it to have a 120mm OLD,  and assembled his own cassette to fit it (see details in this Riv newsletter).

Another option is to use a 120mm freewheel hub with a 5 speed freewheel. You could probably spread the stays to fit a 126mm hub without much effort/risk, but it's also pretty simple to respace most 126mm freewheel hubs to 120mm.

The wheels currently on my Roaduno have old Phil Wood hubs; the rear is spaced at 120mm and takes a freewheel. However, with guidance from Bill Lindsey and others, I recently modified a Shimano Ultegra 6500 rear cassette hub to 120mm spacing (which includes swapping out the existing freehub with a shorter 7-speed unit). I'll still likely run this wheel with a single cog and a spacer kit on the Roaduno, but now I also have interesting options for some of the more vintage bikes in the fleet.
