It looks like I will be in the Las Vegas, NV
area the week of May 20th.

This will be my first trip to the area other than a brief layover at the airport years and years ago.

I'm not sure I will get any riding in as I will be with an elderly gentleman, although some might say I am about at the elderly stage myself.

I guess that's a matter of perspective but he's 25 years older than me. Ha!

I met this gentleman via cycling.
I'm sure he would love to ride if he could but I fear for his balance on a 2 wheeler.

Perhaps I will rent a bike and try for a short ride while he has dinner with his friend.

Our hotel is near the Boulder area  so I do plan on seeing the dam.

I'm not really interested in casino gambling aspect but I'm sure there are some cool areas to visit within an hour or two of the area.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hey Paul. I was in Las Vegas last fall for a trade show. On the last day, I rented a bike from a shop there for the day. They have a plan where they will drive you out to the sites, also rides where they lead you. I just pick the bike up there and Road. I went to red Rock canyon which is just outside of town. Very beautiful, not too much traffic. I'll see if I can dig up the bike shop name. Here's a link to my Instagram I took some pictures. https://www.instagram.com/p/BpOF5v9HoIA/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=bji375397xyhttps://www.instagram.com/p/BpOF5v9HoIA/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=bji375397xy

I don’t know where you’re coming from or how much time you’ll have available.
I’m also not super familiar with las vegas’ Immediate surroundings. That said, youre about 2hrs from Death Valley and 3 from Zion. Both are spectacular places to see. I also remember liking Valley of Fire park, though any specific memory of why is escaping me. That one is really close.

Hey, that’s my neck of the woods! If you are going to be staying in Boulder city, you really need to check out the hikes in that area. How fit are you? Goldstrike Hot Springs is an amazing, not to be missed hike. It is very challenging and there is some rock scrambling so you have to be in shape to do it. I, myself, couldn’t have done it alone, and needed a boost over several boulders on the way. If you want something easier, you can bike the wetlands in Henderson. Also, someone mentioned Valley of fire, and he is absolutely right. That will be about an hour’s drive north for you, but you’ll never see anything like it again. If you want to hike in Summerlin, a nice community near Vegas, Red Rock Canyon is the place for you. Also, tons of people ride bikes out there, but I think mostly on the roads which has never been my thing. This should whet your appetite! Let us know what you decide to do!

Well, tickets are purchased so this trip is scheduled.

Thanks for the input on things to see in the area.

The Valley of Fire sounds interesting.

Also it would great to see Death Valley.
I've never been there.

One day we will be driving nearJoshua Tree National Park so we may check it out as well.

Thanks again.

In case your plans are flexible and these might appeal to you:

I was at Valley of Fire two years ago with the wrong shoes.  You'll be hiking in red sand that once was part of the mountain.  I  recommend high top hiking boots to keep the sand out of your shoes.
Death Valley.  Bring a paper map.  You lose cell connection partway between LV and Death Valley.
Mob Museum.  VERY interesting (history of how LV came to be), more than I thought it would be.
Hoover Dam.  Take the longest tour you can.  Awesome.
Red Rock Canyon.  Lots of good hikes, from easy to difficult.
