Howdy folks

Bought a Burley Kazoo to bring my nephew on rides but the proprietary rack isn't long enough to reach the braze-on eyelets on the Appaloosa dropouts so I'll have to use the upper larger ones. I've realized that M5 bolts just pass through the threads it's some size bigger. Just thought I'd ask here before going and and buying a few sizes to try out.

thanks for any help

The barrel shaped braze-on, farther up the seat stay, just above the one your rack is using, is an M6 x 1.0 pitch.
But, so is the upper of the two “braze-ons” at the rear dropout. (It’s actually cast into the dropout.)
The lower of the two is M5 x 0.8. You appear to have a bolt head showing — Is that just an M5 not truly threaded into the M6?
At least that is the case with my MIT Appaloosa, I think made in 2016 or 2017. I bought it used in 2018.

The upper eyelet on the dropout and the braze-on a couple of inches up the seatstay are a standard M6x1 thread. The other braze-ons and dropout eyelets are M5x0.8 thread.
