Long time lurker introduction

Hello,

My name is Nick, moved to Minneapolis from Portland Maine last may and am loving it here!

Have loved Rivs (Bridgestones before that) from the first time I saw one! I have only owned one for the last year and a half however, a friend connected me to a Quickbeam that was for sale and I jumped on it. A great guy in Maine gave me a killer deal on it and I have ridden the crap out of it. 

Currently in my stable is an early 60s Peugeot Px10 built up as a 650b fixed gear dream, A 54 Dunelt 3speed, a Peugeot 80s “lugless” brazed frame built up as a “road” bike that’s fairly lightweight and quick, a Lotus Challenger with a Crust Romancer fork on it that is just fun, and then I am waiting on a Tanglefoot  Bullthistle that is a lugged randoneer style fat bike made by Alex Meade in Mass.

Have always loved looking through this page and look forward to being more active here!

Welcome! Your stable sounds very interesting Please post the statutory photos, particularly for the Dunelt. Does it have the usual AW or something more interesting?

And, what is the gear on your PX10 fixed gear?

Hey Nick - I know this is a Riv site, but I'm with you on the PX10...for years, that was my only bike, and I still have mine hanging in the garage for when I need a reality check.  I picked up an additional '72 frame last year, and was thinking it might make a fun 650B single-speed. Would you kindly share the details of your build?

Welcome! Great looking QB, Nick! Congrats on your upcoming Bullthistle! That’s a very unique bike, and there’s an are very few of them out in the world. Alex is an old friend of mine, and a genius frame builder and engineer.

I love my PX-10 single speed. Nick, nice QB. Stephen , if you are building up a PX-10 frame, I noticed that Velo Orange stocks French-threaded headsets and bottom brackets FYI when you build it up. For my own, in 2011 my late partner switched out mangled stock Stronglight BB and crank (don't ask) for a threadless BB VO used to sell but no longer does. Otherwise, the only stock parts I'm using are the Simplex seatpost and original Ideale 90 saddle, still in good shape, as well as the Mafac brakes. Otherwise, Nitto technomic and Moustache bars, Ambrosio Elite Rims w late 70s/early 80s Campy 36 hole record hubs, Shimano XTR crank 36(I think) chainring 20t WI ENO freewheel for my old but OEM knees,MKS stream pedals. Original fork (another disaster I won't go into) was replaced by a Tange Cro-mo fork...not as pretty as the original, but whatever. Mish-mash but has that je ne sais quoi ride that many Rivendells ( I have some) ride, and except for the 50+ year-old paint and war wounds, is still in good shape. Bought my first PX-10 in 1973; this is my 3rd bought in 82 (it's a 72 or 73 model, though with those elaborate black Nervex lugs and full Reynolds frame). From time to time I flirted with the idea of getting the frame and original fork fully restored, but I'd be erasing the history I've had with it, and to me, it has a certain funky charm. 

650B wheels sound like a great option...with 35 X 32mm Paselas, I can't squeeze fenders on, or run wider tires, so when I commuted to work before I retired, I rode my 93 Bridgestone X0-1 with its fenders for rainy days.
