I interviewed Justin about his 1996 Waterford All-Rounder which he has listed for sale right now. I wanted to capture some of the bikes history before it moves on to its new owner.

It's a simple bike but the AR is one of my favorites from Riv's early lineup. The paint on Justin's is gorgeous and he shared some great photos too which I included in the post.

You can read the interview and find all the pics below. I hope you enjoy. And if you have an AR, feel free too reply with a pic.

Thanks for reporting your conversation with Justin, and for the photos of a lovely bike. It's one of the few ARs I've seen that appears to have the same features—lack of several useful braze-ons, for example—that my AR has, though I think mine is possibly a decade younger. Photo attached of my Fastest-Color AR.

This was a cool read. I'm also a fan of ghost hubs, especially on night time cruises.

Nice write-up of a cool conversation. My "fastest color" 2014 Nobilette-built AR is even faster with the sans-cream head tube!  Currently running Albatross bars, and OM-1 and a few other changes - I need new photos.

Beautiful bike, Marty. I agree that you should make new photos. And you should post them!

A beautiful bike indeed. My first 26” wheel Rivendell Road Custom, ordered circa 11/1994 and delivered circa 3/1995 was based on the original All Rounder with the 753 tubes and James lugs, but Grant tweaked the geometry a bit to make the custom Road handle more nimbly. In fact, it handled very nicely with ~35 mm tires, but a bit too twitchily with 23s, the widest 559 “racing” tires at the time (Specialized Turbo). His 2 subsequent 26” wheel road customs had a slightly slacker head and longer stays and — again, the 1995 was lovely — were a noticeable step upward in that signature Grantian handling quality, impeccable straight-line stability combined with unhesitating tunr-in.
