The Tektro R559 page refers to 'yoko pad inserts,' but the product page is dead.  Somebody out there know what they are?  I'm looking for new brakepads.

thanks

Yokozuna makes a variety of salmon pads -- Riv sells some, but it does not appear they have the smaller cartridge pads right now.  I'm pretty sure the 559s use Shimano-compatible pad holders, but am not positive.

Here's Yokozuna USA's website page with pad inserts for caliper brakes:   http://tinyurl.com/y5zk79ax

They're also available from a variety of other online sources, or if you're really lucky, your LBS.

Aren't Kool Stop "salmon" brake pads identical to the Yokozuna ones? Kool Stop pads are generally easier to find.

have used both brands over the years and have never been able to detect any performance difference between their salmon pads. both work well for me. I am not a brake guy though.

Yes, the 559s are Shimano compatible.
Kool-Stop Salmon pads (Part no. KS-DURASA) fit and work just fine in 559s.

It might just be me but I like the feel of the Yoko pads better than Kool Stop.  Kool Stop is easier to find but the Yoko pads are made with the original Matthauser formula which was bought and licensed by Scott.  I've always liked Matthauser pads and just stick with them.  I find the Yoko's on Amazon if nobody else has them in stock.

Kool stop made Mathauser pads for them.  The kool stop formula is as OG as it gets.  Dura II pads are awesome.  I upgrade Paul brakes with those all the time.  Here's a micro write up on them:  https://www.analogcycles.com/product/kool-stop-brake-pads/  -james / analog cycles
