So sweet.  I find my Homer sluggish.  Good find!

Although I was not necessarily in the market for a new bike, I tend to cruise Craigslist for Rivendells and classic steel frames to snag if a deal comes along, as many of you probably do. As luck would have it, a 59cm Roadeo popped up for a song last week and I couldn't resist. The owner purchased it directly from RBW in 2016 and the build includes a lot of choice parts including White Industries crankset, White Industries hubs laced to H+Son rims, Paul Racer brakes, SRAM Rival 10sp drive train, and braze ons for a front rack (sweet!). The frame is in excellent shape and the paint job has a few chips and scratches, but nothing untoward. Fortunately it was already set up with Albastache bars and dirtdrop stem which I also have on my 57cm Homer, so exactly the way I prefer. Is the Roadeo faster than my Homer? I don't know or care. But from what I can discern, less effort is necessary to go the same distance, which for a lazy feller like me is a welcome feature. I gave her a good wash yesterday so I figured I would share this beauty with you all.

I was following that one too and wasn't quick enough. Glad to see it went to a good home.

Lucky you! Congratulations. May I ask what it cost you? (What a vulgar question! But I still want to know.)

A new F + F now cost $2,800, with builds from $4K to $5.4K, so with the build you described, I'd say your walked away with a good deal! Again contratulations.

1600$, which for a Roadeo in this condition with these parts seemed like too good a deal to pass up!

Love it. Great find. Loving the Roadeo I picked up on the list. Feels faster but could be the wheels.

I forget what other Rivendell you own, but the Roadeo was designed with light tubing and road geometry to compete with the carbon fiber crowd, so I would not be surprised if the difference is in the frame. My new Riv replacement (thinnish wall, narrow gauge tubing, lighter frame) feels faster than the custom Rivendell it is modeled on, this last one built of, as I decide in retrospect, too-stout tubing.

Of course, wheels and tires can make a huge difference too.

Eric,
Nothing frivolous about a highly discounted bike score. Especially a perfect fitting essentially rare model from Rivendell. Letting someone else eat the depreciation or passing the bike along to just eliminate the guilt of having to look at a neglected bike that does not get taken out for its intended purpose is a win win proposition. Kudos to you for being part of the equation.

Enjoy that beautiful thin steel lugged ride!

Sincerely,

That is such a gorgeous bike!  And at that price, with those components, it is an absolute steal.  I am waiting for Leah to weigh in.  I suspect she is going to be jealous of the sparkle red paint job.

I had been eyeing this as well. Decided against it because 59 was a touch too large for me but could have been a fun experiment using a stubby Crust/Nitto stem. I also wanted to get centerpull posts brazed on but it would have messed up the surrounding paint & the bike just looks too good already.
Hope you get to enjoy it!
