Friction Shifting 9-10s Question

I am going to soon rebuilding the drivetrain of my Hunq.  It currently has the standard Riv triple Sugino setup as a 3x9 with an 11-34 rear and a Deore long cage.

I have an 11-36 10s cassette and 10 speed chain laying around that I'd like to use.  I would likely setup a 36 or 38T up front, maybe a double at most. I have Silver shifters that I would be reusing.

Given the hub is the same width and technically the 10s cassette is the same width just thinner cogs, should this work fine?

Yep. Not my first choice because I'm already not a huge fan of friction shifting 9-speed, but lots of folks who are say 10 is good, too.

Personally, I can friction shift 9 speed great, but attempting to friction 10s was much too finicky. Lots of ghost shifting in either the high or low gears (I can’t remember which). Seems like some people won’t friction beyond 8 and others claim no issue frictioning up to 11

Friction shifting lets me swap wheel sets around like nobody's business as I have 6, 8 and 9 speed set ups among 4 bikes. I find wen I am very tired, that my lever control is less precise and I am more likely to ghost shift. I have a quick talk with myself and then get the chain properly seated in whatever gear is needed. It seems to happen less on my DT shifting bikes than bar enders.

I’m running 1 x 10 friction on my Clem H with a clutch derailleur and wolftooth chainring (38t) and feel like it’s the quietest, smoothest shifting I’ve ever had. I paid close attention to centering the chain line, and had to experiment w a couple BB’s before finding it. Maybe that effort is what makes the difference, maybe it’s the clutch. Either way, even w the longer Clem chain, I find it quieter and smoother than the 2x9 drivetrains on my other bikes.
