Hello Hello --

Wondering what folks are running on their Roadini. I have Jack Browns and they are a great tire, but looking at options, wondering what folks are running? Anyone in the 40s?

The largest 700c tire I would run on a Roadini would be the 700x35 Bon Jon Pass EL, which is a far more plush tire than a Jack Brown.  I would not be surprised if somebody claimed to have run a Barlow Pass 700x38.  The Barlow pass can run a tiny bit wider than 40mm on some rims, and for that reason I'd never recommend the Barlow Pass on a Roadini or any bike that takes brakes with similar typical clearance.

Yeah I'm running 700x35 Bon Jon Pass tires and clearance is comfortable. You could probably squeeze a 700x38 Barlow Pass in there, but to Bill's point, the clearance would be pretty tight. It depends on brake choice, too- I have a Tektro 539 in the front that I don't think would accept a 700x38 tire, but the Shimano BR-something or other on the rear likely would.

38mm Panaracer Gravelkings (on 22mm external width rims) fit comfortably with Shimano brakes. Definitely acceptable clearances.

A related question: what is everyone’s favorite tire for their Roadini? I have one incoming one of these days, and I was intending on throwing on some Jack Brown greens, so I could maybe sneak some fenders on there if I felt like it (will be using Paul centerpulls btw). I’ll be using mine nearly all on paved roads, and I just want a comfy ride. I’ve run Barlow ELs and currently run Snoqualmie ELs on my Sam and I love em. I probably will not use fenders anyway, and I’m wondering if I should do Bon Jons instead...

Bon Jons...basically better than Bon Jovi. I've run Jack Browns, which are nice, and the Compass 28s, but Bon Jons are the sweet spot.

My (new to me) Roadini came with SimWork Volummy 38's. They had plenty of clearance under the Dia-Compe Centerpulls. I, like most, opted to put Bon Jon's on. Not for the size, really, but because I had them and like their plush ride. It honestly looks to me like there's room for fenders w/ the 35's, but I may be more comfortable than some with tight clearances.
