Someone mentioned that there might be a "fancier" Chev coming down the Riv pipeline.  I wonder how they can make what I think is an already fancy bike, even fancier.  Hmmmm?

Based on a couple vague blahg references there's been fun speculation about the "25th/26th Anniversary" frame but no one really knows. Does seem like the Clem L < Cheviot < ___?___ lineup would be a little rich with step-thru frames, but as one of the many MOMs (Men on Mixtes) I can get behind / thru it!

I suspect it will be released as soon as Bicycle Belle Ding Ding perfects the setup on her current ride ... then she'll have to buy another Riv. It will of course be in her classy cherry red with cream accents.

Fancy Cheviot was mentioned to me when I asked about Leah's late, lamented, apparently never to be Anniversary Mixte at RBW. I don't know any more about it than "fancy", but it's definitely NOT the 25th swoopy-parallel-tubes step-thru we've seen drawings (and a lug) of. It definitely IS happening.

Let’s not open old wounds and bring up the lamentable Anniversary Mixte. 😂 Man, I took that one hard. I decided if I can’t have that AM, I’d like the newer version of Cheviot and I’ll just get it painted cranberryredwithsparklesandcream (that’s how it should be said). The Betty can go, and I’ll sail off into the sunset on my Clem L and Fancy Chev.

No swoopy tube on the new Chev - I asked. Rumors are that the new Cheviot is out late spring, but I’ve been assured by many folks that Rivendell’s timeline often doesn’t follow what’s predicted. There are talks of longer wheelbase as well. This makes sense to me since they lengthened their already-long-Clems. Folks who had both Cheviots and Bettys said that the difference between the two in ride was minuscule, if not undetectable.

I don’t know what makes the new Cheviot fancy. We started calling it that somewhere along the line - who remembers why?

"Fancy Cheviot"

That's what Grant called it when he brought it up to me. I believe it's since landed in a Blahg, or maybe I just said it to Leah and she said it to 5 people and here we are!

I admit I knew about it quite a while ago. I kept it a secret and told no one because I didn’t think it was public. But somewhere along the line Grant said something on the Blahg or the Blug or the email update, so I don’t consider it a secret now.

The good news is we have a bike to look forward to. The bad news is it’s not the Anniversary Mixte.

Yes, looking forward to a new Riv is always exciting.

I’m currently saving up for a Chev for the Mrs. and by time I have enough to buy, it’ll probably be spring/early-summer. I hope the “fancy“ Chev will be out by then. If not, I’d still be happy to buy the ”regular” version.

Me thinks the Glorius and Wilbury were definitely fancier versions, and ancestors of, the Cheviot.  See this thread:

Maybe a resurrection is in the making, but with 5ft chainstays?!

Yes, the color of the Red 52 Rosco Bubbe would be swell! A color so deep Leah could get lost in it. Unfortunately it's so awesome it's also major thief bait; which is why I no longer have mine 😥

My word, Mas! How did they get it?!? Horrid, and a reason Grant gave for not wanting to choose red for the Anniversary Mixte. But I still want red. They’ll have to knock me off my bike if they want to take it.

They had just moved the bike rack to the far side of the parking garage and the security people wouldn't let me take it up the elevator to my office.
They assured me it was safe, because they had security cameras. So, as it was there's very nice video of the theifs Malibu and his two accomplices talking on their cell phones nonchalantly as he cuts the lock and stashes it in his trunk. 2 1/2 years later and it's still missing.💩
The next Monday they moved the bike rack back to it's former position right by the front door. Day late and a dollar short as they say. They building management took no responsibility, would not give me a copy of the video and the overworked Dallas PD couldn't care less.

It's funny, but I think if I'd had $2,700 stolen they would have taken it very seriously, but because it was a bike it hardly registers on their radar at all.

Well here's what the Rosco looked like:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/vi8ypWxg9CvRtDkCA

The copper colored fenders & clay tires likely pumped the thief bait factor up to around 12 on a scale of 10. But it's a good indicator of what a fancy Mixte in red would look like, just add imaginary diagonal tubes!
Incidentally, if you see it rolling around somewhere please let me know. It's hard to miss.

Ok, that is exactly the look I’m going for in my next bike. WOW. Copper fenders? What sorcery is this?!? Was there sparkles in the paint? It looks like no. I definitely want sparkles. But yes, that bike would stand out at any rack. Why wouldn’t security let you bring it upstairs? What is not secure about a bicycle??? Also, what lock did the thieves cut? I have a recurring nightmare that my bikes gets stolen. My brain always orchestrates the dream to end with me finding an extra Betty Foy frame I had in the garage that was just lying about. (As if!) I’ve always told myself if I just use Hexlox on the saddle and seatpost and 2 u-locks no one can steal my bike. Of course that’s not actually TRUE. I hope you find it one day, though that is little consolation now.

Copper fenders (actually just paint, not real copper) from Handsome bikes.
The picture of the bike in the bike rack is exactly the spot it was stolen from. It did not have that lock on it; just by coincidence I was using a thin cable lock that day.
Why I couldn't take it upstairs? (Using the freight elevator even), I have no idea? Just stupidity really. It's what happens when you give an imbecile a little bit of authority; power goes straight to their head.
Probably, part of it is they had JUST moved the bike rack over there, fixed the whole area up, painted it "look at these bikes you can steal green" as part of their most current refurbishment and if people didn't use it, they did it for nothing.
Obviously, it didn't have the desired effect.

Sorry your bike got stolen. The annoyance doesn't go away; I should know as I'm still annoyed at the theft of my Diamondback BMX 30 years ago! :)

From casual observation, a lot of bike infrastructure isn't designed by practical cyclists. I appreciate that someone took the effort to enhance cycling infrastructure, but they're doing it in a way that most practical cyclists won't find particularly useful. Bike racks are one fantastic example. Why are they usually out of the way, and shaped for inconvenient locking? Worse, I've seen too many that are not at all secure, due to simple oversights such as having nuts or bolts (affixing them to the ground or building) that can be removed quickly and silently by simple hand tools, thus negating even the most secure bicycle lock.

I do like Tom’s resurrection idea. A Longruis/Longbury would be cool. I have always loved how the extra stays on the early Riv mixtes curved into the seat stays. It made for really nice lines no matter the frame size.

Tom, that bike is the inspiration for my entire idea. When I saw this bike it was a few years ago and I just thought it was the classiest thing on two wheels. I don’t want the old model because it will feel too short to me now that I’ve gotten used to Rivendell’s long wheelbase bikes. Plus, it’s nice to know it can take a fatter tire.

masmojo, agree.  For my riding I'm also in the short wheelbase camp, though I do allow myself to love my Clem H, which has chainstays that can double as shrimp boat outriggers in a pinch.

Leah, I would have rounded up a posse to seek out and help buy that red & cream Glorius for you, to help put you out of your misery.  Oh well, you want a loonngg bike.

Masmojo, I am so sorry to learn of that theft! I built 51cm red Rosco for my teenage son. If he grows the few more inches he hopes to grow, I will offer the bike for sale to you first! (Can’t be many of these around) I’m going to buy my son a second lock based on your sad experience. https://flic.kr/p/29q4vKV

Friends, did you see the newsletter today? It says there’s a bike coming a year out “a wild bike” that they’re keeping quiet for now. I wanted to be sure I got that right, and when I went to double check, the post has been taken down. Huh...

I also remember something about “nothing like it in our lineup now”.

Anniversary Mixte??? 😬😬😬

Not the Anniversary Mixte; anyone holding out hope for that save your pennies and be ready to get a fancy Cheviot this Spring.

Speculate all you wish; but trying to get inside Grant’s mind for potential future models better be as close to him as Mary.

In the blahg from early November (the first number 30) is a drawing named "charlie_for_blahg_grande.jpg"

It has a swoopy top tube, long chainstays, a relatively short virtual top tube length, and 622 listed as the rim size. I see a 29er with drop bars when I see it built up in my mind.
