To those who’ve tried: will my Waterford Homer clear Snoqualmie Pass or Hurricane Ridge RH tires?

Thanks,
D.

I ran Snoqualmie 44’s on my Homer (pre MIT) and noticed that as the tires expanded with mileage, the rear got very tight but never rubbed. I’m back on Barlow pass 38’s now, mainly because it has been so wet in the southeast that I had to put fenders back on. But when this wet season lets up I’ll go back to the Snoqualmies. I did notice the rear tire expanded more quickly than the front, probably due to carrying more weight, so I marked which was which and will reverse them when they go back on. Plenty of room in the front, btw.

I’ve got an earlier 650b Homer (Toyo) so YMMV, but I believe the clearances should be similar to your Waterford 700c .  My Homer was a RBW build with Fatty Rumpkins and SKS P45 fenders and the clearance is really tight.  I’m having to constantly adjust the fenders to keep them from from rubbing tires.  I believe the original pre-MIT Saluki/Homers were designed to fit 38mm tires and fenders. I previously had a sidepull Sam (MIT) and it had at least a couple mm more clearance. I had pre-TC Baby Shoe Pass EL on the Sam and they eventually grew about 1mm to about 41-41.5mm wide.  I believe Jan said on the RH site that newer run of TC Baby Shoe passes were widened a bit to measure a true 42mm.  Both bikes had Velocity Synergy rims.  I will probably downsize to Loup Loup Pass EL when the Homer gets new shoes.  Note that the extra light RH ties tend to stretch more over time according to Jan.

If you scroll down to bottom of page, Grant addresses tire clearance on a pre-MIT/pre-kickstand plate Homer.  http://www.cyclofiend.com/rbw/hilsen/index.html

Danny I could mail you one if you want to test fit.  Unless you already scooped a pair on that RH flash sale.

My Waterford homer (59 I think) has 3.2 mm+- clearance on either side of a Barlow Pass that measures 38.8mm at 50 psi. These are rear of bike measurements. Front is more like 6 or 7 mm on both sides of same tire. John - In currently pleasant to ride in Walnut Creek
