Wanted to ask if this sounds like a bad idea... I've been thinking about setting up a 8cm Nitto Dirt Drop with Nitto Choco bar. Due to moderate to server joint damage I need to stay in a very upright position. Currently, I have a Bosco on both my Sam and SimpleOne, that said, I like to mix things up. Any positive and or negative thoughts regarding the Dirt Drop / Choco combo would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Scott

You are likely the only one who can answer that question, Scott.  Going from a Bosco to a Choco is a significant loss in height.  You don't say what stem you are using currently with the Bosco.  If it is something other than a Dirt Drop, you'll need to factor that into the equation.  When I switched from Albatross bars to Choco's on my Hillborne, I replaced the 10cm Tallux with a 110 FacePlater and wound up with roughly the same bar height and reach.  Due to a lumbar fusion, I tool need an upright riding position.

Hi David, right! on the Sam it's the Bluelug's version of Bosco Bullmoose, on the SimpleOne it's a (I think) 12cm Tallux. Thinking the Dirtdrop will provide the height and bring the reach back closer to me, keeping around a similar reach as the Bosco. Looking at WhatBars, the Bosco has a longer reach, so maybe the Choco will come back to around the same reach with the shorter, higher stem. Curious to try a flat swept-back but with a slightly different curve.

You'll need to compare the stem heights you're working with on those Boscos with a DirtDrop. My experience on my custom:

I starrted with a Bosco Bullmoose and ended with a 10cm DirtDrop and Billie Bar, my vague-ish memory is the Billies are slightly lower than the Bullmoose. In between I had a Tallux and regular Bosco, that one was MUCH higher at Max Height.

I have hand/wrist issues too and you definitely want to know if your new bars/stem are going to be high enough. I would take a long look at the height specs on the stem page at Rivbike, my memory of Chocos are they don't have a ton of rise so that stem is going to be doing most of the work. Also remember you can't totally rely on the Max Height line for Rivs because of their extended headtubes. That baby's gotta be buried enough to reach the toptube intersection.

One more note: The DirtDrop/Choco combo should feel notable stiffer than Tallux/Bosco.
