First time Rivendell owner, long time Rivendell admirer. I have to give Rivendell tons of props. To include a great BB, nice headset and a seat post, all installed nicely and included in the frame set purchase, is very rare to non-existent. On top of that I bought the frameset with the $200 off sale!. I love it and am an extremely happy customer and fan of the Rivendell way of designing bicycles.

I was just admiring this bike on IG earlier!  I am @jasonmytail btw.  Lovely build, I ordered a Clem H 45cm earlier today so this was topical for me. Good deal on that sale, I wish I had jumped on it, but thankfully a near-as-good sale came up now so I figured why not.

I've only been a Rivendell owner for a couple months so I'm hardly ordained to welcome you, but nonetheless, welcome to the fold!

That's a nice build, love the swanky blue brakes. Welcome to the #clemriders gang!

Very nice! I think the Clem and Jones bars are a great combo.

I also have a Clem H frame that I am building over the winter. I am building a set of wheels before I get started on the complete bike build. I also have a 1x build in mind. Going with the Jones H bar as well. Looks like you have the same Crust stem that I just purchased for mine. I am considering picking up the riser version of the Jones bar but haven't decided yet. I can't get over how long these bikes are!

Joe: It looks like a fun bike, only, I ask why such narrow tires? That build with 50s or 60s would be a bomb. How fat a tire can a Clem take?

I do appreciate the Royal Blue cantilevers.

I can't read the number on the tires but they look like 47/48 to me, which is plenty wide. They look narrow because those Cliffhanger rims are so wide.

Dude I just followed you and Joe on IG. @hagasan

I went with Panaracer Gravel King 650x48 tires because they seal up great tubeless, fats and are bombproof. I’m not planning on riding single track with it so no need for fat knobbies. I have a pair of Schwalbe G-one Speeds 650x2.35 I had on there first when I was building the bike and they fit fine. But the wheels were from my Elephant NFE and they don’t have machined sidewalls. Big fat tires will fit up to 2.4 but they may come in contact with an unmodded kickstand. Panasonic made in Japan tires are IMHO the best tires.

Those Cannondale CODA brakeset was made by Diacompe Japan and they are easy to service and clean up. The shaft is steel so they are durable.

The Jones Bars are great Cruiser bars. I have the Bosco bars but I could never get comfortable with them. I know lots of guys use them on their Rivs and are extremely popular but I have lower back issues so sitting up straight on my bikes just doesn’t work for me. I have to lean forward some and have the bars just over level. The JonesBars just have always worked out great for me.

Nicely done!

I'm also considering the riser Jones bars for one of my bikes.

I'm admiring your shop area as much as your Clem.

Looks terrific!

I tried the riser Jones on my hunqa and combined with the VO 31.8 Cigne stem they felt way too high for me, so I ended up switching to regular Jones bar which are great!

Make sure you balance stem and Handlebar combo to end up at the desired height.

Joe T, that looks like it’ll be a nice bike. 52 cm size, from the looks of it?.. Curious about your seat height and how you find the h-bar setup. Also wondering how the larger tires handle — I tried the 2.3” G-Ones on the HHH and there was too much wheel flop for my tastes on it, so now running Hetres on the tandem. But now I’ve got those fat G-Ones laying around, plus I recall buying Bullmoose bars and not selling them, so that’s as good of an excuse as any to build up a suitable frame, innit?..

Hi Max,

I have he 52cm size frame, the stand over with the 650x48 Panaracer Gravel Kings is approximately 31 5/8” at center of the top tube. The larger G-ones will bring it up another 1/2” or so. My stand over is 33”. The frame fits larger than the 52cm stock size leads on if you get lost in the number.

The Schwalbe 2.35 G-One Speed tires are rather light for their size. I run them on my NFE without issue, but the NFE is low trail and doesn’t have wheel flop. The Clem is very neutral in handling and while I done have more than a few miles on it I didn’t notice sluggish steering or wheel flopping tendencies. The 2.35’s tubeless will be a nice riding bike.

Made some changes to my build. Went with the standard Jones Bar. The Crust stem gives me the rise I like. Also modded a Shimano StagHead M700 Friction shifter to 10&11-speed. NOS Sakae seatpost.

Looks good Joe. I also had to cut one of my Jones grips to be able to install my shifter. Is this a 52 cm Clem?

What specific Crust stem did you use?

Yes, I think you've hit the nail on it's head there! The standard rise Jones, looks much better aesthetically and functionally. 👍🏼

Hi Ann,
The cranks are Rivendell Silver 173mm triple. I installed a Raceface Narrow Wide 38t 110bcd. The rear is a Shimano 11-42 SLX 10-speed cassette. In order to get the rear derailleur to be able to swing to the 42t I used an 11-speed SLX medium cage rear derailleur. The chain is an E-bike KMC 10-speed 136links. 110mm Shimano BB that came stock from Rivendell. I modded the vintage shifter to swing up to 11-speed.

Here’s the one I got:
https://crustbikes.com/products/nitto-31-8-30-60mm-stem/

It’s about an 1/8” wider and uses larger M6 screws. 125mm of rise too!
