Hi all,
I'm the second owner of this late 90's 57cm Rivendell Road. It's ridden with plenty of wear, but no dents. Some touch up paint spots, plenty of patina and beausage after 25+ years.

Very nice. I see that it has Joe Starck’s trademark little brazing flourish “winglet" between BB shell and chainstay bridge. My 1999 has that too. It serves no purpose except to look like a lovely superfluous bit of brazing work.

When thou didst not, savage, know thine own meaning,

But wouldst gabble like a thing most brutish,

I endowed thy purposes with words that made them known.

If it's purpose is lovely superfluous brazing, it works wonderfully! I enjoy it.

For those wondering it's 57cm ctc for seat tube and top tube, 27.2 seatpost, 130 spacing and is a "road standard" model. This catalog is from pretty early on but gives info for those unaware of the model.

My circa 2000 Starck custom doesn’t have that “winglet”.  I got ripped off! But mine is the same pea sage green so I’m good.

HiBOB.

My ‘99 (or maybe it’s ‘98?) JS/JB Riv Road Std. is also like that.  I’ve always thought of that as something Joe didn’t do.  The BB shell has a mini chainstay bridge cast into/onto it, and there is a brazed in chainstays bridge as well.  I personally think the cast one should have been filed away, but I don’t suppose it matters…

Doug,
You may be right, that part does appear cast as part of the bb shell, so likely "less work" to leave it and have both than remove it. Not sure, though.

Best,
Eric

I'm keeping the Road for now, thanks for the interest.

Soft market, maybe, but no one wanted this at close enough to my asking price to justify the sale, so I'll keep riding it.

Best,
Eric
