Wanted: Appaloosa 60cm pics with big tires, thoughts on upright riding position

Looking for some photos of a Joe Appaloosa size 60 or 58 with big tires, 29x2.25ish.  New to group, hopeful Riv owner. Thinking of getting an orange Joe when the next batch comes out.  Most pics on the www are of smaller frames, and I'd love to see what the proportions look like on a big frame.  Also wonder if the upright riding position that Riv is known for gets uncomfortable or hinders hard pedaling.  I'm used to getting in the hoods to get a faster pace going. Currently ride a Surly Traveler Check with drops, a Panasonic MC4500 vintage mtb, and a FBM bmx.  Feel free to drop any insights on the Appaloosa worth knowing before dropping a pretty penny on one.  Thanks.

Here is my 62 Appaloosa with 50mm Cazarderos on Cliffhangers (measure a true 50mm). I fit a 2.1" Thunderburt in the rear but the 2.25" was too close for comfort. The 2.25" fit fine in the fork but it needed to be deflated a bit (annoying). Not sure if that has changed with more recent models. I am never uncomfortable on this bike; I did not build it as an in the hoods faster pace bike so I can't really comment on that.

And here is my 59 Clem H with 2.25" Thunderburts on Cliffhangers. Plenty of room. Will probably try 2.5" tires next. This bike is a good fit and also very comfortable.

Have a 58cm 2017 and a 57cm 2020 Appa and would like to point out that in those years the rear clearance increased actual between the chainstays from 60mm to 70mm. The smaller frame is actually longer, by 1cm, so a 62.5 top tube as opposed to the 58s 61.5. The front clearance stayed the same obvs because the fork crown has not changed. Only ever managed 2.1 knobbies on the old one and that was tight. on the new one they have heaps of room and 2.25 would be fine. BUT haven't actually done it.

I intended to set up the 57 as the 'fast' one with a short stem and a dropbar of some sort but felt for me just too long even with a 5cm stem. Ended up inverting a billie bar on a 130mm stem and get a really nice forward moustache bar like hooks to lean into and a very comfortable upright position at the grip end of the bars, more upright than the short stemmed drops. Running Antelope hills on NoBs with a 51mm actual, tonnes of clearance and have acheived a 'fast' rivendell build. Can post a photo but would have to make the effort because I dont smart phone.

I have one of the 57cm Appaloosa frames from the most recent batch. Here it is with 700x55 tyres (Herse Antelope Hill front, Schwalbe Marathon Almotion rear) under Velo-Orange mudguards. Mounted on H Plus Son Todestrieb rims, the front tyre measures 53mm wide and the rear 55mm. There's about 1/4" clearance each side at the rear between the tyre and the inside of the chainstays, slightly less clearance at the front between the tyre and the inside of the fork blades.

Not quite the frame size you were wanting, but here is my 55cm Appaloosa with 2.25 Thunderburts. They fit just fine with enough room to feel comfy.

Wow, I'm also reallly drawn to that grilver clem.  Hoping to get a appaloosa of similar size this next round too. Bones, how does your clem compare to your appaloosa?

Thanks! I think it's the algae slowly climbing up the back of my house that really makes the Grilver pop! To me they are pretty much the same bike, though the Clem's geometry is closer to the newer Appaloosa's. I love those bullmoose bars but when I put them on my Appaloosa (62.5 TT) they felt too close. On the Clem (65.5 TT) they feel just right. I could probably consolidate both bikes with one of the newer Appaloosas since they have longer TT and apparently have wider clearances too.

It rides like a vintage mountain bike but better. I like the bullmoose bars. I had Albatross bars on mine first, but I like the bars wider. A lot of how the bike feels depends on the handlebars. The long chainstays/long wheelbase was strange at first, but now it makes sense. Actually the delivery e-bikes in NYC have similar long wheelbases. This is a 55cm model from the first batch.

Follow up from my earlier reply to here, Maxxis Ikon 2.25. Sunday I found myself trapped on a 12 mile stretch of sticky trail of gritty mud. Had to stop numerous times to clear my brakes and stays of mud so the wheels would keep turning. Once home a cleaning with the hose revealed four spots on the forks and chain stays taken to bare metal from just the one ride. Now I know what you are thinking but look at the photos included showing plenty of clearance.
