Since someone suggested it and I saw this beauty on the Asheville craigslist, I'll get this years thread started.

Please note I have no relation to the seller, but exchanged some emails and he seems like a nice guy. He mentioned his wife has a Susie ;)

$1,250 for a custom road.

It seems like a great deal if you're looking for an OG road frame. It does have a blemish from a top tube dent that was rolled out, but given the build, still seems like a good catch to me (I was tempted to buy it, but I don't need another bike)

I'm selling my Rivendell Road Custom road bike. I've had the bike for about four years and purchased the frame from the original owner. It's around a L/XL in sizing, measuring 60.5 cm from bottom bracket to top-tube (C-T), with a 59 cm top tube (C-C)--I'm happy to make any other measurements you're interested in as well. The top-tube suffered a dent early on in my ownership of the bike, but was rolled out with frame blocks and now there's not much to it, but unfortunately messed up the paint. Check the last pics for details: I've added a nice Blue Lug top-tube protector to hide the primer job and to prevent damage. I've ridden it for years without issue...it's steel.

The build is pretty stellar. Here's the details:

⦿ Made in USA lugged Rivendell Frame, Joe Bell paint. Original paperwork included.
⦿ Cane Creek threaded headset. It looks like a modern 110, but is unmarked. It's gorgeous.
⦿ Rivendell Silver caliper brakes. Very powerful.
⦿ Velocity Quill Rims, Velocity Road hubs, Sapim Laser Spokes.
⦿ 700x35c Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR tires, set up tubeless.
⦿ Campagnolo Veloce brifters, Shimano XTR (M900) derailleurs, Vintage Specialized ST-4 with the XTR rings. 3x8 and shifts flawlessly (the brifters could do 2x as well, but you would need to play with the chainrings/FD to make work).
⦿ Nitto S83 seatpost, Nitto Deluxe 100mm stem, Soma Highway One bars (46cm)
⦿ Specialized Power saddle
⦿ MKS pedals.

More info: 77cm saddle height in the photo.

Somebody should really grab this one. I was thinking about buying it for a Dutch friend of mine but it was a bit big. Seller is very communicative.

You'd probably sell a lot more that say "My husband doesn't need another bike".

As I tell myself, "I do not need another bike" and also "I'm just asking for a friend," I wonder out loud whether this custom in Asheville is a 62cm frame, a number which fits better for a 59cm top tube.

To test this, I measured the pixels from the center of the crank to the top of the top tube, and I got 354 pix. If the saddle height is indeed 77 cm, then we'd expect about 450 pixels if the nominal 60.5cm height is correct and about 440 pixels if it's 62cm -- I measured and get 448 pix. Given the fact that the tape would naturally be moving a little in the "z" direction, I think that the 60.5cm measurement is pretty close accurate.

FWIW I measure the top tube length to be close to the seat tube height. I think that's just the difference between the CTT and CTC measurements, which adds up because by eye this looks close to square.

The seat tube may in fact measure 60.5 cm. Both of my customs are 60.2 cm. Nobilette (and the previous builders of Rivendell customs) can make a frame any size you want.

I am skeptical the frame is a 62. Grant's frames are usually long. My top tube measures 59 cm.

I need a gross of those t-shirts. This bike is my size.

Corwin

Regarding that custom with the repaired top tube, I found the seller responsive. There isn't a geo sheet, but the build sheet says that it was built for a six-foot tall rider, 88 PBH and 78 saddle height. I'm looking for a older Ram/Roadeo/Road Custom bike like that, but held off because off question marks regarding severity of dent, and that I am more interested in just the frame and possibly wheelset. He prefers to sell it whole.

Hey, thanks you three for the interesting and helpful perspectives.   In all truth, I do have a friend who is an inch shorter than me who needs a Riv, even though he dosn't quite know it ...
