Yesterday, I rode with a friend off road for the second time of ownership of my bike. He owns a Surly Troll bicycle. We were out for two hours riding a dirt trail above the small town of Eatonville over to the Pack Forest through packed dirt, patches of old asphalt, soft mud and puddles.  The length of the ride was about a little over six miles out and back in two hours.

The sun was out and warm around 56 degrees. It was a grand day to be out and about after all the cold and wintry months. Evergreen trees around us, a waterfall and a large red-tail hawk flying overhead as we scared it from its roost off from being on an old tall dead tree along the trail. It was really cool to see the bird that close.

A woman riding a road bike with thin gravel tires rode past us at a fast pace only to meet up with her a large steel tubed gate across the trail on her way back down the trail. We stopped and spoke to her. Good thing that we did, because before us the road split into three different directions. She explained to us which road goes where. We chose the one that goes to the Pack Forest parking lot is with all of the classroom and out buildings are near Mountain Highway 7.

Today, I reflect on how much this Clem handles so well. It is stable, solid and sure-footed. I point it the direction I want it to go and it just rolls right over whatever is in its path with its 29" wheels as an ATB.  I have grown in love with it even more so.

It is truly well worth the all the money I paid for it and all the $1000.00+ of personal upgrades. It has exceeded my expectations beyond just a good bike for upright riding. I am happy. I am joyful. I am elated in finding the joys of riding off road. I am comfortable now in the saddle after months of trying to find the right comfortable saddle; a Terry Cite X Gel, for my bony seat bones, the right seat post and with a new pair of riding shorts.

Eager to get out there again. Having fun in my senior years !
